Emigration from Mexico is the movement of people from Mexico to other countries. Immigration from Mexico has risen over the years. Overview The United Nations listed Mexico among the top ten emigration nations during 1970 to 1995. The top destination by far is the United States, by a factor of over 150 to 1 compared to the second most popular destination, Canada. There are various reasons as to why people emigrate from Mexico such as the U.S needing low-skilled labor, or emigrants desiring to establish themselves and their families in the U.S. Furthermore, the patterns of immigration have changed over the years as laws and programs such as the U.S. Immigration Act of 1996, the Bracero Program, and the Immigration Reform and Control Act have affected migration. Immigration to Mexico has been important in shaping the country's demographics.
