Mexican Football League System
The Mexican football league system is organized by the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF), except for Liga MX and Liga de Expansión MX, which are organized independently; The league system consist of six professional divisions (four men's levels and two women's levels). In addition to having other national competitions that are the ''Campeón de Campeones'', which is a super cup that is played in each division, except in Liga TDP and Liga TDP Femenil. The Copa MX was played for the top and second levels, and the Copa Conecta is also played for the third and fourth levels. Mexican Football Federation
The Mexican Football Federation (), abbreviated as FMF is the official governing body of football in Mexico. It administers the men's and women's national teams with all its youth teams, the national teams of futsal and beach soccer, Liga MX with all its professional divisions, all affiliated amateur sectors, and controls promoting, organizing, directing, expanding, and supervising competitive football in Mexico. The FMF was established on 23 August 1927 to replace the ''Federación Central de Fútbol'' and its first president was Humberto Garza Ramos. It is an affiliate member of FIFA since 1929 and one of the founding members of CONCACAF since 1961. Subject to policies, statutes, objectives and ideals of those international governing bodies. Leagues Cup
The Leagues Cup is an annual soccer competition between clubs from Major League Soccer (MLS), the main soccer league in the United States, and Liga MX, the main soccer league in Mexico. It is hosted in Canada and the United States. It began in July 2019 with four teams from both leagues participating. The first edition was a single-elimination tournament hosted in the United States with a final played in Whitney, Nevada, near Las Vegas, on September 18, 2019. In 2023, the tournament was expanded to include all clubs from MLS and Liga MX, and now functions as a regional cup for CONCACAF between the top division leagues in Mexico and United States, and includes MLS teams that are based in Canada. This is a list of football clubs in Mexico. Currently the governing body of football in Mexico is the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF), which is in charge of the Mexico national football team with all its categories and also all the professional divisions of the Mexican football league system, with the top level being the Liga MX. The NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup () is a women's soccer competition between clubs from the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) of the United States and Liga MX Femenil of Mexico. The first edition took place in 2024, at venues in the United States and Mexico. The competition is similar to the Leagues Cup, which is played by men's teams from Major League Soccer and Liga MX. The 2025 season is not expected to see the return of the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup. CONCACAF W Champions Cup
The CONCACAF W Champions Cup is an annual continental women's football club competition organized by CONCACAF that determines the club champion for the region encompassing North America, Central America and the Caribbean. It is comparable to Champions League competitions on other continents. Involved are the top women's clubs from the region, and serves as the qualification tournament for the future FIFA Women's Club World Cup and FIFA Women's Champions Cup. Liga Mexicana De Fútbol Femenil
The Liga Mexicana de Fútbol Femenil is a women's football league in Mexico organized by LIMEFFE. Formally known as the Superliga Femenil, this league was established in 2007 as an attempt to help and grow women's football in Mexico. It was considered until 2017 as the highest division of women's football in the country. Even though the league had the support of the Mexican Football Federation as well as the support of some Liga MX clubs such as Chivas, the league struggled to attract sponsors, fans, and media attention from its beginning. In 2016, the Liga MX Femenil was created with the full backing of all Liga MX clubs and the Mexican Football Federation to professionalize and grow women's football in Mexico. Liga MX Femenil, also known as Liga BBVA MX Femenil for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league and the highest level of women's football in Mexico. Supervised by the Mexican Football Federation, Federación Mexicana de Fútbol, the league has 18 participating teams, each coinciding with a Liga MX club. The CONCACAF Champions Cup, formerly known as CONCACAF Champions League (2008–2023), is an international association football competition organized by CONCACAF as its top continental tournament for clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. The champions automatically qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. The tournament currently uses a knockout format; it had a group stage prior to the 2018 edition. Liga MX, also known as Liga BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Mexico and the highest level of the Mexican football league system. Liga TDP
Liga TDP is a professional association football league in Mexico and the fourth level of the Mexican football league system. Formerly known as Tercera División de México (1967–2017). It has 223 participating clubs, divided into 17 regional groups by geographic location. In the 2009–10 season, the format of the tournament has been reorganized to a home and away format, which all teams will play in their respective group. The 17 groups consist of teams which are eligible to play in the liguilla de ascenso for three promotion spots, teams which are affiliated with teams in the Liga MX, Liga de Expansión MX and Liga Premier de México, Liga Premier, which are not eligible for promotion but will play that who the better filial team in a sixteen team filial final phase tournament for the entire season.
