Meriden And Solihull East
Meriden and Solihull East is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament. Further to the 2023 periodic review of Westminster constituencies, it was first contested in the 2024 general election. It is represented by Conservative Party member Saqib Bhatti, who was MP for the predecessor seat of Meriden from 2019 to 2024. The constituency name refers to the village of Meriden and the eastern areas of the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull. This is part of a boundary review that resulted in the Meriden constituency being split into three. The 2023 review of Westminster constituencies was the most recent cycle of the process to redraw the Constituencies of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, constituency map for the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. The new constituency boundaries were approved by the Privy Council (United Kingdom), Privy Council on 15 November 2023 and came into law on 29 November. It is the first review of Westminster boundaries to be successfully implemented since Fifth periodic review of Westminster constituencies, 2010. The National Exhibition Centre (NEC) is an exhibition centre located in Marston Green, England, near to Birmingham and Solihull. It is near junction 6 of the M42 motorway, and is adjacent to Birmingham Airport and Birmingham International railway station. It was opened by Elizabeth II, Queen Elizabeth II in 1976. History The NEC was originally going to be built adjacent to the M1 motorway (junction 21) near Leicester but it was turned down by Leicestershire County Council with claims that "The big shows won't move away from London". Elmdon, West Midlands
Elmdon is a suburban village in the civil parish of Bickenhill and Marston Green, in the Solihull district, in the county of the West Midlands, England. It is in the ancient county of Warwickshire. The population of this Solihull Ward at the 2011 census was 12,067. In 1931 the parish had a population of 225. On 1 April 1932 the parish was abolished and merged with Bickenhill and Solihull Urban. The name Elmdon means hill of the elms. It is primarily a residential area. It was formerly home to Elmdon Aerodrome, which is now Birmingham Airport. Elmdon Parish Church dates from 1780 and overlooks the Rover Works, home of Land Rover since 1946.
