''Mer de Noms'' (French for ''"Sea of Names"'') is the debut studio album by American rock music, rock band A Perfect Circle. The album was released on May 23, 2000, and entered the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200 at No. 4, making it the highest ever ''Billboard'' 200 debut for a rock band's first album. It sold over 188,000 copies in the first week, and was certified platinum by the RIAA later that same year. A Perfect Circle
A Perfect Circle is an American Rock music, rock Supergroup (music), supergroup formed in Los Angeles, California in 1999 by guitarist Billy Howerdel and Tool (band), Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan. A Perfect Circle released three of their four studio albums in the early 2000s: their debut ''Mer de Noms'' in 2000, a follow-up, ''Thirteenth Step'' in 2003; and an album of radically re-worked cover songs, ''Emotive (album), Emotive'', in 2004. Shortly after ''Emotive''s release, the band went on hiatus; Keenan returned to Tool and started up solo work under the band name Puscifer, while Howerdel released a solo album, ''Keep Telling Myself It's Alright'', under the moniker Ashes Divide. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is a trade organization that represents the music recording industry in the United States. Its members consist of record labels and distributors that the RIAA says "create, manufacture, and/or distribute approximately 85% of all legally sold recorded music in the United States". Troy Van Leeuwen
Troy Van Leeuwen (born January 5, 1970) is an American musician and record producer. He is best known as a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist in the rock band Queens of the Stone Age, with whom he has recorded five studio albums. Joining the band in 2002, he is the second-longest-serving member of the band, after founding member Josh Homme. Van Leeuwen is also a member of the supergroup Gone Is Gone and has fronted his own projects, Enemy and Sweethead. Failure (band)
Failure is an American alternative rock band from Los Angeles that was active from 1990 to 1997 and again from 2014 to the present. Failure is recognized for being one of the standouts of 1990's Space Rock, with a focus on compounded guitar effects, uncommon melodies, and an emphasis on substance over style. Failure was a lesser-recognized band who started off with their initial release ''Comfort'' presumed by many at the time as a post-grunge release. They struggled to get airplay on radio until their third album was released, ''Fantastic Planet''. The self-produced and self-mastered album (while remaining distributed through Slash Records) received little promotion but critical acclaim and began to chart on US Alt Rock radio only for the group to disband shortly after Lollapalooza 1997. Paz Lenchantin (born December 12, 1973) is an Argentine-American musician. She is best known for having been the bass guitarist and backing vocalist of the alternative rock band Pixies (band), Pixies, playing with the band and recording three studio albums between 2013 and 2024. Maynard James Keenan
Maynard James Keenan (born James Herbert Keenan; April 17, 1964) is an American singer, songwriter, philanthropist, record producer, and winemaker. He is best known as the singer and primary lyricist of the rock bands Tool (band), Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer. Having grown up in Ohio and Michigan, Keenan joined the United States Army, U.S. Army after graduating from high school. After his service, he attended the Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1988 to pursue a career in interior design and set construction, and formed Tool with Adam Jones (musician), Adam Jones shortly thereafter. Fishbone is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 1979, the band plays a fusion of ska, punk, funk, metal, reggae, and soul.
