Meon Valley (UK Parliament Constituency)
Meon Valley () was a parliamentary constituency in Hampshire represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. It was represented from its 2010 creation by George Hollingbery and from 2019 to 2024 by Flick Drummond. Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the constituency was abolished and divided between three new seats. The bulk of the constituency namely Waterlooville and the surrounding villages were moved to Fareham and Waterlooville. Horndean was be moved to East Hampshire, offsetting losses moved into the new cross- county Surrey seat of Farnham and Bordon. Other western areas moved into Winchester and Hamble Valley. East Hampshire (UK Parliament Constituency)
East Hampshire is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Damian Hinds of the Conservative Party. Further to the completion of the 2023 review of Westminster constituencies, the constituency was subject to major boundary changes. The town of Bordon moved to a majority Surrey constituency named Farnham and Bordon, first contested at the 2024 general election. History The seat was created in 1983 chiefly to replace the Petersfield constituency. The first MP was Michael Mates of the Conservative Party, who held it from 1983 until the calling of the 2010 election when he retired. The 2023 review of Westminster constituencies was the most recent cycle of the process to redraw the Constituencies of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, constituency map for the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. The new constituency boundaries were approved by the Privy Council (United Kingdom), Privy Council on 15 November 2023 and came into law on 29 November. It is the first review of Westminster boundaries to be successfully implemented since Fifth periodic review of Westminster constituencies, 2010. Whiteley is a planned community of 6,500 homes in the county of Hampshire, England, United Kingdom near Fareham. The development straddles the boundary between two council districts: the Fareham (borough), Borough of Fareham to the south and west, and the City of Winchester to the north and east. Southwick is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Southwick and Widley, in the City of Winchester, Winchester district, in Hampshire, England. north of the Portsmouth boundary measured from Portsea Island. Denmead
Denmead is a village in Hampshire near Portsmouth, England. It is part of the City of Winchester district. As of 2005, it had a population of 6,457 and an electorate of 4,987. At the 2011 census the population had increased to 6,736. As of 2021, this had decreased to 6,505. History In 1316, Denmead was owned by the Bishop of Winchester, who leased it to various tenants. It became referred to as a manor in 1449, when it was owned by William Wayte. When Wayte's grandson died, the lands were divided amongst various other members of the family and Denmead was passed down. The village is shown in the Hambledon Hundred on John Speed's map of Hampshire which was published in 1611. After some time the property became further divided as it was split between different owners because it was inherited down multiple generations. An electoral swing analysis (or swing) shows the extent of change in voter support, typically from one election to another, expressed as a positive or negative percentage. The River Meon () is a chalk stream in Hampshire in the south of England. It rises at East Meon then flows in a generally southerly direction to empty into the Solent at Hill Head near Stubbington.Hampshire County Council (2006). Boundary Commission For England
In the United Kingdom, the boundary commissions are non-departmental public bodies responsible for determining the boundaries of parliamentary constituencies for elections to the House of Commons. There are four boundary commissions: one each for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each commission comprises four members, three of whom take part in meetings. The speaker of the House of Commons chairs each of the boundary commissions ''ex officio'' but does not play any part in the review, and a High Court judge is appointed to each boundary commission as deputy chair. A safe seat is an electoral district which is regarded as fully secure, for either a certain political party, or the incumbent representative personally or a combination of both. With such seats, there is very little chance of a seat changing hands because of the political leanings of the electorate in the constituency concerned or the popularity of the incumbent member.
