Mendrisio Electric Tramway
The Mendrisio electric tramway (, TEM) was a metre gauge electric tramway in the Switzerland, Swiss canton of Ticino. It linked the town of Chiasso with Riva San Vitale, via Balerna, Mendrisio and Capolago. It was operated by the ''Società Tram Elettrici Mendrisiensi SA''. The line's southern terminus in Chiasso was adjacent to the border crossing with Italy, and in Capolago it shared the same street outside Capolago-Riva San Vitale railway station with the Monte Generoso railway. The track ran entirely within the street, and was electrified at 800 Volt, V Direct current, DC. It had a length of , with 49 stops, a maximum gradient of 7.5% and a minimum radius of . The ''Società Tram Elettrici Mendrisiensi SA'' was incorporated in 1907, and construction started the following year, with the tramway opening in 1910. Capolago
Capolago is a village situated at the south-eastern extremity of Lake Lugano, in the Swiss canton of Ticino. Originally a municipality in its own right, Capolago is now a quarter of the municipality of Mendrisio, itself part of the district of Mendrisio. History The first mention of the name of Capolago appears before 1300, in the general statutes of Como. In 1365, Capolago assumed greater importance due to the building of castle. The castle was dismantled in 1517. From then on, the village was largely concerned with fishing, and the ferrying of people and goods to and from Lugano. In 1556, Capolago was the birthplace of the architect Carlo Maderno. Lugano–Cadro–Dino Railway
The Lugano–Cadro–Dino railway (; LCD) was a Swiss metre gauge suburban railway that linked the towns of Lugano, Cadro and Dino, in the canton of Ticino. The line was opened in 1911. It was long, and was electrified at 1000 V DC using overhead lines. It commenced from a terminus in Piazza Manzoni on the Lake Lugano waterfront, had 16 stops, a maximum gradient of 4% and a minimum radius of . In addition to the suburban railway service, the LCD also operated an urban tramway service over its tracks between Piazza Manzoni and La Santa. The Monte Generoso Railway or Ferrovia Monte Generoso (MG) is a mountain railway line in the Italian language, Italian speaking cantons of Switzerland, canton of Ticino, in south-east Switzerland. The line runs from Capolago, on Lake Lugano, to a terminus near the summit of Monte Generoso. It is the highest railway in Ticino. Capolago-Riva San Vitale railway station () is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Ticino. The station is in the village of Capolago, part of the municipality of Mendrisio, but, as its name suggests, also serves the adjoining municipality of Riva San Vitale. The station is on the Swiss Federal Railways' Gotthard railway, between Lugano and Chiasso, and on the Monte Generoso railway, a rack railway to the summit of Monte Generoso. The station features three platforms on the Gotthardbahn, whilst the Monte Generoso trains stop at a streetside location in front of the station. The single track to Monte Generoso leaves the station to the south, immediately climbing to a flyover over the main line, and also continues to the north serving the railway's car shed, workshops, and lakeside terminal stop. Mendrisio (; ) is a Municipalities of Switzerland, municipality in the district of Mendrisio (district), Mendrisio in the Cantons of Switzerland, canton of Ticino in Switzerland.
