This is a list of Members of the Senedd elected to the sixth Senedd at the 2021 election. There are a total of 60 members elected, 40 were elected from first past the post constituencies with a further 20 members being returned from five regions, each electing four members through mixed member proportional representation. In between elections, members of the legislature may not necessarily be of the same party or the same candidate elected in 2021. Welsh Conservatives
The Welsh Conservatives ( cy, Ceidwadwyr Cymreig) is the branch of the United Kingdom Conservative Party that operates in Wales. At Westminster elections, it is the second most popular political party in Wales, having obtained the second-largest share of the vote at every general election since 1931. In Senedd elections, the Conservatives are currently the second most supported party but have at times been third. They hold 14 of the 40 Welsh seats in the UK Parliament, and 16 of the 60 seats in the Senedd. At the 2021 Senedd election, the Welsh Conservatives won 8 constituency seats, taking Vale of Clwyd from Welsh Labour and Brecon and Radnorshire from the Welsh Liberal Democrats and 26.1% of the constituency vote across Wales, their best constituency seats results since creation of the Senedd in 1999. Jack Sargeant (politician)
Jack Sargeant (born 1994) is a Welsh Labour, Welsh Labour Party politician, and a Member of the Senedd (MS). He represents the Alyn and Deeside (Senedd constituency), Alyn and Deeside constituency, where he succeeded his father Carl Sargeant following the 2018 Alyn and Deeside by-election, February 2018 by-election. Background Sargeant was born in Rhuddlan in Flintshire, Flint in 1994 and attended Connah's Quay High School. He studied for an engineering apprenticeship at Deeside College before completing a degree course at Glyndwr University, Glyndŵr University in Wrexham, then working in DRB. He was elected as MS for Alyn and Deeside (Senedd constituency), Alyn and Deeside at a 2018 Alyn and Deeside by-election, by-election held on 6 February 2018. Alyn And Deeside (Senedd Constituency)
Alyn and Deeside ( cy, Alun a Glannau Dyfrdwy) is a constituency of the Senedd. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. Also, however, it is one of nine constituencies in the North Wales electoral region, which elects four additional members, in addition to nine constituency members, to produce a degree of proportional representation for the region as a whole. The constituency has been represented by Jack Sargeant since February 2018. Boundaries The constituency was created for the first election to the Assembly, in 1999, with the name and boundaries of the Alyn and Deeside Westminster constituency. It is entirely within the preserved county of Clwyd. For the 2007 Assembly election, there were minor changes to the constituency's boundaries. Janet Elizabeth Finch-Saunders (born 1958) is a Welsh Conservative Party politician. She is the Member of the Senedd for the Aberconwy constituency. Political career Janet previously represented the Craig-Y-Don ward on Llandudno Town Council, and Conwy County Borough Council. In the 2003 Senedd election, Janet stood unsuccessfully as the Conservative candidate for Wrexham and was third on the regional party list. Elected in 2004, she was appointed to the Cabinet with overall responsibility for Community Safety and Public Protection matters. Aberconwy is a constituency of the Senedd. First created for the former Assembly's 2007 election. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. It is one of nine constituencies in the North Wales electoral region, which elects four additional members, in addition to nine constituency members, to produce a degree of proportional representation for the region as a whole. History Since its creation, this seat has been a three-way marginal constituency between the Conservatives, Labour and Plaid Cymru. Plaid won this seat in the 2007 election but since then the Conservatives have narrowly held the constituency. The Senedd (; ), officially known as the Welsh Parliament in English and () in Welsh, is the devolved, unicameral legislature of Wales. A democratically elected body, it makes laws for Wales, agrees certain taxes and scrutinises the Welsh Government. It is a bilingual institution, with both Welsh and English being the official languages of its business.
