2007 National Assembly For Wales Election
The 2007 National Assembly for Wales election was held on Thursday 3 May 2007 to elect members to the Senedd, National Assembly for Wales. It was the third general election. On the same day local elections in England and Scotland, as well as the 2007 Scottish Parliament election, Scottish Parliament election took place. This election was preceded by the 2003 National Assembly for Wales election, previous Assembly election in 2003. The election saw Plaid Cymru make gains at the expense of Welsh Labour Party, Labour, although Labour remain the largest party in the Assembly, as they have since it began. Plaid stated they would make a referendum on devolving further powers to the National Assembly a condition for a coalition. Carl Sargeant
Carl Sargeant (27 July 1968 – 7 November 2017) was a Welsh politician who was the Cabinet secretaries and ministers Secretary for Communities and Children in the Welsh Government. He represented the constituency of Alyn and Deeside in the National Assembly for Wales from 2003. Sargeant was removed from his Cabinet position and suspended from Welsh Labour on 3 November 2017 following allegations about his behaviour. He died four days later. On 11 July 2019, an inquest ruled his death a suicide. Background Sargeant was born in St Asaph, Flintshire, to Sylvia (née Hughes) and Malcolm Sargeant. Before becoming an Assembly Member, Sargeant worked as a process operator at the Warwick International Limited chemical manufacturing plant in Mostyn. He was also a quality and environmental auditor and a member of the site's Emergency Response Team. Janet Finch-Saunders
Janet Elizabeth Finch-Saunders (born 1958) is a Welsh Conservative Party politician. She is the Member of the Senedd for the Aberconwy constituency. Political career Finch-Saunders previously represented the Craig-Y-Don ward on Llandudno Town Council, and Conwy County Borough Council. In the 2003 Senedd election, Finch-Saunders stood unsuccessfully as the Conservative candidate for Wrexham and was third on the regional party list. Elected in 2004, she was appointed to the Cabinet with overall responsibility for Community Safety and Public Protection matters. During her time as a Councillor, Finch-Saunders was Chair of the Principal Scrutiny Committee and Leader of the Welsh Conservative Group. David Rees (politician)
David Rees is a Welsh Labour politician who has served as the Deputy Presiding Officer of the Senedd since 2021. He has served as the Member of the Senedd (MS) for Aberavon since 2011. Early life David studied at Cardiff University, where he obtained an honours degree in Engineering and a postgraduate teaching qualification. He then began a career in education, working at Cynffig Comprehensive School in Kenfig Hill, and then at Afan College. He then moved into a career in Higher Education, eventually becoming Assistant Dean of Faculty at Swansea Metropolitan University. While working in Higher education he also obtained a Master's degree. Political career Rees joined the Labour Party in 1982 and has been an active member ever since.
