Melodies From Mars
''Melodies from Mars'' is a collection of unreleased tracks by Richard David James, better known under his pseudonym Aphex Twin. Although James did not admit authorship until 2010, it was known to fans as an unofficial Aphex Twin album because at least two of its tracks are alternate versions (possibly demo versions) of tracks featured on the subsequently released '' Richard D. James Album'' (1996). Some tracks also bear resemblance to those on '' Analogue Bubblebath 5''. These tracks are thought to mark the beginning of a new phase in James's career, when he started composing music using computer software rather than on synthesizers and analogue equipment. There are few places to find this album. It is commonly believed that ''Melodies from Mars'' was given to some of James' friends on cassette tapes. Richard David James (born 18 August 1971), known professionally as Aphex Twin, is a British musician, composer and DJ active in electronic music since 1988. ''Analogue Bubblebath 5'' is an unreleased EP by the British electronic music artist and producer Richard D. James, under the alias of AFX. Recorded in 1995 and consisting of nine tracks, the EP had been intended for release on James' own label, Rephlex Records, as the fifth installment in his ''Analogue Bubblebath'' series. However, James decided that it was not up to par with other entries in the series, so it never made it past the test pressing stage. Only 20 copies of the record were produced. Release In January 2005, Rephlex started to mail out the binder and black vinyl editions of '' Analord 10''. Due to issues at the manufacturing and mail out stage, approximately 20 buyers did not receive their package. Rephlex mailed out a second batch in June 2005 to those who had not received their order. Rephlex Records was a record label launched in 1991 in Cornwall by Electronic music, electronic musician Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin) and Grant Wilson-Claridge. The label coined the term ''braindance'' to describe the output of Aphex Twin and fellow artists. History In 1989, Grant Wilson-Claridge met Richard D. James (a.k.a. Aphex Twin) DJing at The Bowgie, a club located just along the coast from Newquay, Cornwall. According to Wilson-Claridge, back in 1989, "the Bowgie was the best club ever...this was before Newquay turned into the Cornish Ibiza" and it was very difficult to hear new and interesting music. Michael Robert Paradinas (born 26 September 1971), better known by his stage name μ-Ziq (pronounced "music" or mu-zik), is an English electronic musician from Wimbledon, London. ''Expert Knob Twiddlers'' is a 1996 studio album by Mike Paradinas and Aphex Twin, Richard D. James. It was released in 1996 on Rephlex Records and is the only release credited to the two as Mike & Rich. On 14 July 2016 Planet Mu announced that a reissued version would be released with seven bonus tracks in September 2016. Production Mike Paradinas described the sound of the album as "an updated version of easy listening and funk". James had heard the music Paradinas had made under the name of Jake Slazenger and invited him to create tracks. Paradinas noted James had invited other artists to collaborate with him, including Luke Vibert, Squarepusher and Cylob and was honoured that his collaborative tracks were chosen for the release.
