Meitei Language Festival
The Manipuri Language Festival (), also known as the Meitei Language Festival or the Manipuri Bhasha Utsav, is an annual language festival dedicated to the promotion and the development of the Manipuri Meitei language, Meitei script, and Meitei culture in Bangladesh. The event is organised by the Bangladesh Manipuri Literary Society (). Festival Activities The festival is held at Adampur Tetaigaon Rashid Uddin High School premises in Kamalganj, Moulvibazar. It includes an opening address and colourful procession and rally of Meitei students and guests, a payment of tribute at the local Martyrs' Monument to those protestors who died during the Bengali language movement of 1952, and a meetings, including cultural programs and prize-giving. Kamalganj, Bangladesh
Kamalganj () is an upazila (sub-district) of Moulvibazar District in the Division of Sylhet Division, Sylhet, Bangladesh. Etymology There was a local zamindar by the name of Kinkar Nath Ray who appointed a naib by the name of Kamal Narayan in order to develop the land. Kamal established a wikt:گنج, ganj (treasured neighbourhood) named after himself. In 1922, Kamalganj was made a thana and in 1983, an upazila. History Kamalganj was a part of the ancient ''Ita Kingdom'' founded by Raja Bhanu Narayan. The final raja of the Ita Kingdom, Raja Subid Narayan lost a battle in 1610 in which the region became under the rule of Khwaja Usman. However, this rule was short-lived after Mughal General Islam Khan I's attack in 1612. The battle between the Mughal Empire and Khwaja Usman was held in Patanushar, Kamalganj. The Manipuri Sahitya Parishad () is a literary council dedicated to the active promotion and the development of literary works in the Meitei language in India. in national as well as international levels. Meitei Linguistic Purism Movement
The Meitei linguistic purity movement is a political and social language reform movement that aims to purge the Meitei language of foreign elements (such as loanwords from Hindi, Sanskrit, and English) and promote a supposedly purer form of Meitei. The movement includes literary, political, and social organisations as well as notable members of government. The movement has sometimes veered into censorship.
