Meet On The Ledge
"Meet on the Ledge" is a song written by British singer-songwriter Richard Thompson and recorded by British folk rock band Fairport Convention in 1968 on Island Records. It was their second single. Background The song was taken from the album ''What We Did on Our Holidays''. The band had performed the song on the 1969 launch of ''From the Roundhouse'', a short-lived BBC television youth and arts programme about the London "underground scene". The vocals were performed by Sandy Denny and Iain Matthews. The song's title came from a large, low-hanging tree limb on which Richard Thompson used to play as a child, and which he and his friends had dubbed "The Ledge". Reception Thompson has acknowledged that some people interpret "the ledge" as some sort of code for the afterlife and that it is popular at funerals. Fairport Convention
Fairport Convention are an English British folk rock, folk rock band, formed in 1967 by guitarists Richard Thompson (musician), Richard Thompson and Simon Nicol, bassist Ashley Hutchings and drummer Shaun Frater (with Frater replaced by Martin Lamble after their first gig). They started out influenced by American folk rock, with a set list dominated by Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell songs and a sound that earned them the nickname "the British Jefferson Airplane". Vocalists Judy Dyble and Iain Matthews joined them before the recording of Fairport Convention (album), their self-titled debut in 1968; afterwards, Dyble was replaced by Sandy Denny, and Matthews later left during the recording of their third album. Trapeze (band)
Trapeze were an English rock band from Cannock, Staffordshire. Formed in 1969, the band originally featured former The Montanas members John Jones (trumpet, vocals) and Terry Rowley (keyboards), and former Finders Keepers members Glenn Hughes (bass, vocals, piano), Mel Galley (guitar, vocals) and Dave Holland (drums). Jones and Rowley left the band following the release of their self-titled debut album in 1970, with the lineup of Hughes, Galley and Holland continuing as a trio. After the release of ''Medusa'' later in 1970 and '' You Are the Music... We're Just the Band'' in 1972, Hughes left Trapeze in 1973 to join Deep Purple. ''Liege & Lief'' is the fourth album by the British folk rock band Fairport Convention. It is the third album the group released in the UK during 1969, all of which prominently feature Sandy Denny as lead female vocalist (Denny did not appear on the group's 1968 debut album), as well as the first to feature future long-serving personnel Dave Swarbrick and Dave Mattacks on violin/mandolin and drums, respectively, as full band members (Swarbrick had previously guested on ''Unhalfbricking''). It is also the first Fairport album on which all songs are either adapted (freely) from traditional British and Celtic folk material (for example "Matty Groves", "Tam Lin"), or else are original compositions (such as "Come All Ye", "Crazy Man Michael") written and performed in a similar style. ''From the Fires'' is the second EP by American rock band Greta Van Fleet. It was released on November 10, 2017 through Lava and Republic Records. ''From the Fires'' won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album at the 61st Grammy Awards. Background and release ''From the Fires'' was first announced on October 25, 2017, to be released on November 10, 2017. The release consists of eight songs; four being newly recorded by the band, four songs originally found from their EP, '' Black Smoke Rising''. Having chosen songs for ''Black Smoke Rising'' that would demonstrate their range and variety, the band felt that it was "simply just not finished." Greta Van Fleet is an American rock band formed in Frankenmuth, Michigan in 2012. The band consists of vocalist Josh Kiszka, guitarist Jake Kiszka, bassist/keyboardist Sam Kiszka, and drummer Danny Wagner. The Kiszkas are brothers, and Josh and Jake Kiszka are twins. Greta Van Fleet was signed to Lava Records in March 2017, and a month later they released their debut studio extended play, EP, ''Black Smoke Rising''.
