''Rab C. Nesbitt'' is a Scottish television comedy, comedy television series that originally aired between 1988 and 1999. The show returned for a one–off special in 2008, before being re-commissioned in 2010. Its second run was broadcast from 2010 to 2014. The series has been described as "Glasgow's greatest ever sitcom" by BBC Two. Produced by BBC Scotland, it focuses on the title character, Robert "Rab" C. Radio Free Scotland
Between 1956 and 1965 Radio Free Scotland (RFS) broadcast through the audio channel of BBC television (then on VHF) after ''God Save the Queen'' finished in the evening, and, later on, on 262 metres medium wave on the radio. The station was the initiative of David Rollo, an electrical engineer who served as the Scottish National Party (SNP)'s treasurer and head of broadcasting. He built a transmitter in the Townhead Cafe in Kirkintilloch with Alvaro Rossi. The first broadcast interrupted a BBC newscast when viewers in Perth were told to stay tuned following sign off. This "pirate" radio transmission opened with the provocative statement: "This is Radio Free Scotland proclaiming to the nation that the fight for independence is on in earnest". Sunny Govan Radio
Sunny Govan Radio, also known as "Sunny G", is a community radio station based in Govan, Glasgow, Scotland. It is run by the charity Sunny Govan Community Radio Group. History The station's first FM broadcasts took place over two weeks in August 1998, in an effort to challenge negative stereotypes about the area. Following positive reception and successful fundraising, this was followed by a second broadcast over three weeks in December 2001. The station subsequently began broadcasting digitally, and was awarded a Community Radio license for full time FM broadcast in March 2007. Smooth Scotland
Smooth Scotland is a Scottish independent local radio station owned and operated by Global as part of the Smooth network. The station replaced Saga 105.2 FM in 2007. As well as being carried on FM in the Glasgow area, the station is also broadcast on DAB radio to the East of Scotland and online via a streaming service. It is also carried on FM in Wester Ross during non-local broadcast hours of Two Lochs Radio for which it forms a sustaining service. Eklipse Sports Radio
Eklipse Sports Radio was a Scottish-owned independent local radio station. It was based in Kinning Park on the Southside of Glasgow and broadcast to Fife, and Central Scotland. All programming was produced in Glasgow. The station ceased broadcasting on 29 February 2016 after the owners withdrew their financial support. History The station was mooted in the Summer of 2013 when capacity became available on the Central Scotland multiplex and a five-year transmission contract was signed with Switch Scotland. The station's OFCOM broadcast licence was granted in July 2013 with a licensed format of sports news, talk and Classic rock music to a potential 2.7 million adults in the station's total survey area (TSA). Capital Scotland (formerly known as Beat 106, XFM Scotland, and later Galaxy Scotland) is a regional radio station owned by Communicorp UK and operated by Global. It broadcasts to Scotland's Central Belt, an area surrounding the two cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Clyde 1 is an Independent Local Radio station based in Glasgow, Scotland, owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio UK as part of the Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to Glasgow and West Central Scotland. As of September 2024, the station has a weekly audience of 747,000 listeners according to RAJAR. ''Still Game'' is a Scotland, Scottish sitcom produced by Effingee Productions, The Comedy Unit and BBC Scotland.
