Medal For Fighters Against Fascism
The Medal for Fighters Against Fascism () was an award of the German Democratic Republic given to people who had been active in the German Resistance against Nazism. Institution and specifics of the award The award was instituted on 22 February 1958 by the Council of Ministers and honoured those who had been involved in the resistance against the Nazi regime; for example, those confined to prisons or concentration camps or sentenced to hard labour, political émigrés, and also members of the International Brigades. Anti-Fascist activity in the National Committee for a Free Germany was also recognised, as in the case of Arno von Lenski (in 1940 made an honorary member of the Volksgerichtshof, later a Major General in the National People's Army of the GDR). A medal ribbon, service ribbon or ribbon bar is a small ribbon, mounted on a small metal bar equipped with an attaching device, which is generally issued for wear in place of a medal when it is not appropriate to wear the actual medal. Heinrich Rau
Heinrich Gottlob "Heiner" Rau (2 April 1899 – 23 March 1961) was a German communist politician during the time of the Weimar Republic; subsequently, during the Spanish Civil War, he was a leading member of the International Brigades and after World War II a leading East German statesman. Rau grew up in a suburb of Stuttgart, where early on he became active in socialist youth organizations. After military service in World War I, he participated in the German Revolution of 1918–19. From 1920 onward, he was a leading agricultural policy maker of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). This ended in 1933, when Adolf Hitler came to power. Shortly afterward Rau was thrown in jail for two years. As an enemy of the Nazi regime in Germany he was imprisoned, in total, for more than half of the time of Hitler's rule. Arthur Lieberasch (2 November 1881 – 10 June 1967) was a Communist trades union official who became a member of the Parliament of Saxony (''"Sächsischer Landtag"'') and, after 1933 an anti-government resistance activist. Life Provenance and early years Arthur Lieberasch was born in Döbeln, the third of his parents' ten children. His father, a tool-maker by trade, worked in the town's cigar factory. Paul Fröhlich
Paul Fröhlich (21 March 1913 – 19 September 1970) was a German politician and high-ranking party functionary of the Socialist Unity Party (SED). In the German Democratic Republic, he served as the longtime First Secretary of the SED in Bezirk Leipzig and was a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the SED. Until his surprising death in September 1970, he ruled Bezirk Leipzig in a particularly authoritarian manner. Life and career Fröhlich trained as a cook from 1929 to 1931 and worked as an industrial worker and miner. In 1930, he joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD).
