Abul Kalan Azad is a retired Bangladesh Civil Service officer, and politician. Career Azad served as a Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Jamalpur-5 constituency as a candidate of Bangladesh Awami League in 2024. He has previously served as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Economic Relations Division, Power Division and Secretary to the PMO. Azad was arrested after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina led Awami League government. Political career On 26 November 2023, Abul Kalam Azad was nominated by the Awami League as its candidate for the Jamalpur-5 constituency in the 12th National Parliamentary Election. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Jamalpur Sadar Upazila. History The constituency was created in 1978 a Mymensingh constituency when the former Mymensingh District was split into two districts: Jamalpur and Mymensingh. 2024 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 7 January 2024 in accordance with the Constitution of Bangladesh, constitutional requirement, stating that elections must take place within the 90-day period before the expiration of the current term of the Jatiya Sangsad on 29 January 2024. The Awami League, led by incumbent Sheikh Hasina, won the election for the fourth consecutive time with less than 40% of the eligible voters voting according to an Election Commission, which was run by the ruling political party. Non-cooperation Movement (2024)
The non-cooperation movement, also known as the one-point movement, was a pro-democratic disinvestment movement and a mass uprising against the Awami League-led government of Bangladesh, initiated within the framework of 2024 Bangladesh quota reform movement. The sole demand of this movement was the resignation of Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Fifth Hasina ministry, her cabinet. It was the final stage of the wider movement known as the July Revolution (Bangladesh), July Revolution. The Jatiya Sangsad (), often simply referred to as Sangsad and also known as is the unicameral Legislature, legislative body of Bangladesh.
