Robert McRoy (died December 3, 1917) was a baseball executive. McRoy served as secretary of the American League under Ban Johnson. When Johnson put control of the Boston Red Sox under Jimmy McAleer, he sent McRoy to serve as McAleer's secretary. McRoy worked for the Red Sox from 1912 through 1913. When Joseph Lannin purchased the Red Sox in 1913, McRoy returned to work for Johnson. In the 1916-17 offseason, McRoy and Johnson recruited Jim Dunn to head up a syndicate to buy the Cleveland Indians baseball team from Charles Somers for $500,000. Elwyn McRoy is an American college basketball coach and current men's basketball assistant coach at Coastal Carolina University. Playing career McRoy began his collegiate playing career at Butler Community College and then transferred to Hutchinson Community College, where he helped the Blue Dragons capture the 1994 NJCAA National Championship. Jason McRoy (26 November 1971 – 24 August 1995) was an English professional mountain bike racer. McRoy was the first British rider to join an American professional mountain bike team – Specialized/2 Calorie Quest – and was a UK National downhill champion. Cycling career Despite being born with a hole in his heart and enduring a childhood beset by illness, McRoy developed an early love of cycling. Following childhood success in BMX racing – curtailed by a serious injury to his knee, and a consequent period off his bike to recuperate – McRoy first tried downhill mountain bike racing at age 17. In his first race, despite still being registered as a Junior, his time was sufficiently quick for him to take third place overall. Robert Lynn "Spike" McRoy Jr. (born May 20, 1968) is an American professional golfer who has played on the PGA Tour and the Nationwide Tour. Early life McRoy was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. He got his nickname ''Spike'' from his great uncle, a Ty Cobb fan, who sent McRoy a miniature Detroit Tigers uniform when he was born. Cobb was known for his aggressive base running – often "spiking" opposing infielders as he rounded the bases. McRoy graduated from Virgil I. Grissom High School in 1986. Amateur career He attended the University of Alabama graduating with a bachelor's degree in corporate finance in 1991. He was on the Alabama Crimson Tide golf team while there.
