Mount McGregor (mountain)
Mount McGregor is a mountain in Saratoga County, New York in the towns of Wilton, Moreau, and Corinth. It is one of the principal peaks of the Palmertown Range. There are two lakes on the mountain, Lake Bonita and Lake Anna, which were previously used for fishing. History The mountain was originally called ''Palmertown Mountain'', named by a band of Native Americans who moved to the area from Massachusetts escaping from the aftermath of King Philip's War. It was renamed after Duncan McGregor purchased it for back taxes and built a hotel called the ''Mountain House'' in 1876. In 1881 McGregor sold the mountain to the Saratoga, Mount McGregor and Lake George Railroad, owned by Joseph William Drexel. Drexel constructed a narrow-gauge railroad from Saratoga Springs and built the ''Hotel Balmoral'' at the summit with accommodation for 300 guests. In 1897 the hotel burned to the ground. McGregor High School (MHS) is a public high school located in McGregor, Minnesota, United States. It is and houses about 500 students and 50 faculty. The school colors are black and white and the school mascot is Mercury, the Roman god of speed. In 1997 it was discovered that the business manager and another employee of the school had been embezzling funds, leaving a deficit of about $550,000. McGregor Links is a golf club located just outside Saratoga Springs, New York in the town of Wilton. As of 2015, McGregor is the fifth-largest course in the Capital District. The course is semi-private; it is open to the public every day but Tuesday and Thursday. McGregor Links has been the site of seven New York State Amateur Golf Championships and two US Open local qualifiers. It is the home course of Skidmore College's golf team. The course was built in 1921 by former state senator, businessman, and attorney Edgar T. Brackett. It was designed by Devereux Emmet, a prolific designer responsible for more than 150 courses, including the Blue course at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. The clubhouse was designed by Alfred Hopkins. McGregor (Port Gibson, Mississippi)
McGregor, located on SR 547 in Port Gibson, Mississippi, USA, is a country house built in 1835. It was designed in the Greek Revival style. It is privately owned and not open to the public. The one-and-a-half story house was designed and/or built by the planter and judge Peter Aaron Van Dorn (1773-1837) for one of his daughters, likely as a wedding present. The gable-frame wooden residence in built on the center hall plan. It has inset galleries along the north (front) and south (rear) facades. About 1850, an ell was added to the west facade. and Van Dorn was born in New Jersey in 1773 had a law degree from Princeton. He moved to the Mississippi Territory at the age of 21. Shackleton Glacier () is a major Antarctic glacier, over long and from wide, descending from the Antarctic Plateau from the vicinity of Roberts Massif and flowing north through the Queen Maud Mountains to enter the Ross Ice Shelf between Mount Speed and Waldron Spurs. McGregor Mountain is an elevation massif located in the Stehekin Valley of the North Cascades, in Chelan County of Washington state. McGregor Mountain is situated northwest of Lake Chelan in the northern Methow Mountains, on the shared border of North Cascades National Park and Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. The closest community is Stehekin, and the nearest higher neighbor is Goode Mountain, to the northwest. Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains into tributaries of the Stehekin River. Topographic relief is significant since the southern aspect of the mountain rises 6,600 feet above this river in approximately two miles. The famous Pacific Crest Trail traverses the western base of this mountain, and the strenuous 7.7-mile (12.4 km) McGregor Mountain Trail gains 6,400 feet (1,920 m) of elevation to take hikers within a half-mile of the summit.
