The Mayor of Ahmedabad, a city in the Indian state of Gujarat, Waqi Khan is the current leader of the elected wing of Amdavad Municipal Corporation. She is elected for a term of 2.5 years and eligible for reappointment. The term of mayor is also reserved for members of Scheduled Caste and women representatives. The first mayor was appointed on 1 July 1950. The Mayoral office of Ahmedabad has seen various prominent personalities like Vallabhbhai Patel, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who later became first Deputy Prime Minister of India. Chinubhai Chimanlal Seth
Chinubhai Chimanlal also commonly referred to as Chinubhai Mayor (1 November 1901 – 1 August 1993) was industrialist, cotton textile mill owner and one of the scions of Lalbhai group. He was elected as first mayor of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. Biography He was born on 1 November 1901 to Chimanlal Lalbhai and Laxmiben at Ahmedabad. His father Chimanlal Lalbhai was one of the co-founders of Arvind Lalbhai group along with his younger brothers, Kasturbhai Lalbhai and Narottambhai Lalbhai. Dinkar Mehta
Dinkar Krishnalal Mehta (17 October 1907 – 30 August 1989) was an Indian politician and trade unionist. Mehta headed the communist movement in Gujarat for decades – leading the Gujarat state unit of the Communist Party of India between 1936 and 1964, and then the Communist Party of India (Marxist) between 1964 and 1989. He served as a legislator of Bombay State and Mayor of Ahmedabad. Mehta was a prominent leader of the Mahagujarat movement, which struggled for the creation of a Gujarati linguistic state.
