Maurice O'Connell (MP)
Maurice O'Connell (June 1803 – 18 June 1853) was one of seven children (the eldest of four sons) of the Irish Nationalist leader Daniel and Mary O'Connell. He served in British Parliament as Member of Parliament (MP) for Tralee from 1832 to 1837, and from 1838 until his death. O'Connell attended Miss Everina Wollstonecraft's school, Dublin, in 1810, Edward Whyte's school, Dublin, in 1813, Clongowes Wood College in 1815, Trinity College, Dublin, in 1819, and King's Inns in 1821. In 1832 he married Mary, daughter of Bindon Scott of County Clare, and they had several children. The marriage was unhappy and Maurice is said to have had numerous affairs; some of the stories of his father's womanising are said to be based on Maurice's actions. His conduct, combined with chronic ill-health, wrecked his political career. Though described as "frank, popular and enthusiastic" he never lived up to the hopes his father and others had for him. Maurice O'Connell (Fine Gael Politician)
Maurice O'Connell (born 20 October 1936) is a former senator in Ireland. He was born in Penang, Malaysia. At the 1969 general election, stood unsuccessfully as an independent candidate in the Dublin South-Central constituency. He later joined Fine Gael and served in the Seanad from 1981 to 1983, elected to the short-lived 15th Seanad and 16th Seanad on the Labour Panel. He was defeated in the 1983 election to the 17th Seanad. His great uncle William Hickie served as a senator from 1925 to 1936. Maurice O’Connell (died. 1 April 2019) was the governor of the Central Bank of Ireland in 1994, he retired in 2002 and before that he represented Ireland on the ECB Governing Council until 2001. Maurice O’Connell, a kerryman banker and civil servants was born 5 May 1936, in Moyvane. His parents Thomas and Mary O'Connell were both teachers. He did St Michael's College Listowel, a school his grandfather taught for 50 years and were founding member. He went on to attend Brendan's College Killarney and also graduated from the Maynooth Ecclesiastical College. He obtained his MA classics in the University College Dublin. __NOTOC__ Maurice Charles O'Connell (13 January 1812 – 23 March 1879), was a Queensland pioneer and president of the Queensland Legislative Council. Early life O'Connell was born at Sydney in 1812. His father was Sir Maurice Charles O'Connell, his mother was Mary (née Bligh, formerly Putland) a daughter of Governor William Bligh. He was educated at the high school, Edinburgh; Dublin and Paris. Army career O'Connell entered the army as an ensign at 16 and joined the 73rd Regiment at Gibraltar. In 1835 he volunteered for foreign service as colonel with the British Legion in Spain, which he himself had raised in the county of Cork and other parts of Munster, to sustain the cause of the Spanish Queen and constitution against the insurgent Carlists. Later on he became Deputy Adjutant-General, and ultimately succeeded Sir De Lacy Evans as general of brigade in command of the British Auxiliary Legion in Spain. Sir Maurice Charles Philip O'Connell KCH (1768 – 25 May 1848) was a commander of forces and lieutenant-governor of colonial New South Wales. Early life Maurice Charles O'Connell was born in Ireland in 1768. He had had a distinguished career in the army. His family the Tarmon branch of the O’Connell clan of Kerry, Munster were cousins to the Derrynane O’Connell family, such as Daniel O’Connell MP. New South Wales In 1809, he came with the newly appointed Governor of New South Wales Macquarie to Sydney in charge of the 73rd Regiment of Foot.
