His reason for leaving was due to personal beliefs related to the September 11 terrorist attacks. He took a look at his life and realized that he wanted to contribute to the "real world" instead of living the illusion of a "rock star." He approached Jon Schaffer with this in late 2002, but Schaffer, known for his persuasive personality, convinced Barlow to stay with the band. When the band recorded '' The Glorious Burden'', Schaffer decided that Barlow's vocals were not what he desired them to be; he believe ...

Horror Show (album)
''Horror Show'' is the sixth studio album from the American heavy metal band Iced Earth, released June 26, 2001. It is a concept album based on classic monsters and horror-movie icons, including Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Phantom. It was the first Iced Earth album to feature drummer Richard Christy, and the only album to feature Steve Di Giorgio on bass, though he did not tour with the band. ''Horror Show'' is usually considered Iced Earth's only straightforward power metal release, as little of the thrash metal influence from the band's earlier works is present. This album also featured more prominent usage of Matt Barlow's multi-layered vocals as a center point for the songs. There was a special limited-edition two-disc set. The second disc included the instrumental track, "Transylvania", an Iron Maiden cover, along with an interview with bandleader/rhythm guitarist Jon Schaffer. There is also a single-disc version with "Transylvania", but without the interview. The so ...

''Something Wicked This Way Comes'' is the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Iced Earth. Released on June 22, 1998, it was the band's first album to feature bassist James MacDonough and guitarist Larry Tarnowski, and is the only Iced Earth album to be solely produced by Jim Morris, who has worked with the band since 1996's '' The Dark Saga''. Recorded in March 1998, ''Something Wicked This Way Comes'' introduced Jon Schaffer's fictional story Something Wicked Saga, which would be later expanded upon by the band. The song "Watching Over Me" was written as a tribute to Schaffer's deceased childhood friend Bill Blackmon, who inspired the name "Iced Earth". The album received mixed reviews; it was noted as significantly "heavier" than its predecessor, ''The Dark Saga''. It charted in Germany and Austria. During the album's supporting tour, the band recorded their first live album, entitled '' Alive in Athens''. Background As with the band's previous album, '' The Dar ...

It is a collection of remixes and remakes from previous albums, with the exception of their then-recent record '' The Dark Saga''. Most of the songs from the '' Enter the Realm'' EP, ''Iced Earth'', and '' Night of the Stormrider'' were re-sung by Matt Barlow, and on some of the songs the drums and bass were redone. The 2-CD version also has rough mixes of several songs from '' Burnt Offerings'' with the opening to the title track re-recorded. The album cover features artwork of the Chaos Comics character Purgatori. The Dark Saga
''The Dark Saga'' is the fourth studio album by American heavy metal band Iced Earth. Released on July 23, 1996, it was the band's first album to feature drummer Mark Prator, as well as the last with bassist Dave Abell and lead guitarist Randall Shawver. ''The Dark Saga'' was also the first Iced Earth album to be co-produced by Jim Morris, who since then has worked on all of the band's releases. Recorded in early 1996, ''The Dark Saga'' is a concept album based on the Todd McFarlane comic book character Spawn (who also appears on the album's cover). Because of this, the album features a much more melodic and simplified sound compared to other Iced Earth albums. While the response to ''The Dark Saga'' was mostly positive, some viewed these musical changes as a disappointment. Writing and recording Musically ''The Dark Saga'' is much more melodic and simplified compared to Iced Earth's previous albums (majority of the songs on ''The Dark Saga'' are under four minutes long).
