Masuda Bhatti
Masuda Bhatti is a Bangladeshi journalist who was a Commissioner of the Information Commission. She has been removed from her post on 21st January 2025 after allegations of serious misconduct against her were proven. Bhatti was known for filing a defamation lawsuit against Barrister Mainul Hosein who is connected with the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and editor of New Nation daily and Daily Ittefaq. Early life Bhatti was born in 1973 in Faridpur District. Career In 2007, Bhatti worked as a journalist based in London. She worked as the executive editor of a weekly newspaper in London. She had contributed to Ajker Kagoj, Janomot, Moscow Time, and Prothom Alo ''Prothom Alo'' () is a Bengali language, Bengali-language daily newspaper in Bangladesh, published from Dhaka. The Information Commission Bangladesh is an independent statutory body responsible for ensuring citizens have access to information according to the Right to Information Act, 2009. The commission is mostly made up of bureaucrats. Abdul Malek, former secretary to the government of Bangladesh, became Chief Information Commissioner on 22 March 2023. History The Information Commission of Bangladesh was established on 1 July 2009 by the Awami League government. It was based on the Right to Information Ordinance, which was passed in 2008 by the Caretaker Government during the 2006–2008 Bangladeshi political crisis and ratified by the parliament on 29 March 2009. The first chief information commissioner was M Azizur Rahman, a retired government secretary. Sadeka Halim, a professor at University of Dhaka, and Mohammad Abu Taher, another retired secretary, were the first two commissioners. Suraiya Begum
Suraiya Begum is a retired Bangladeshi Civil Servant and former Commissioner of the Information Commission. She was the Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Early life Begum did her bachelor's degree and masters in Economics from the University of Dhaka. She has a masters in health management from University of Leeds. She was the first women to do a NDC course from the National Defence College. Career In 1982, Begum joined the Bangladesh Civil Service. Begum was the Joint Secretary of Ministry of Cultural Affairs in 2007. In July 2008, Begum was the Deputy Registrar of Bangladesh Nursing Council. Begum served as the secretary of the Statistics and Informatics Division and the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division. She was the first secretary at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, Kolkata. She is the chairperson of the Bangladesh Civil Service Women Network. Information is an abstract concept that refers to something which has the power to inform.
