Masters Cup (disc Golf)
The Masters Cup is an annual disc golf tournament held at DeLaveaga Disc Golf Course in Santa Cruz, California. The event features both amateur and professional divisions. The 23rd annual Masters Cup was held April 18–20 (amateur) and May 2–4 (professional), 2008. The Masters Cup is as important to the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) tour as the Masters Tournament is to the PGA, though far less well known to the general public. Each year, one player is selected to receive the "Steady" Ed Memorial Trophy, a lifetime achievement award dedicated to the spirit of disc golf immortal "Steady" Ed Headrick. The 2008 winner of the memorial trophy was Marty Hapne 2004 inductee to the PDGA hall of fame and longtime supporter of DeLaveaga disc golf club, the PDGA, and disc golf in general. DeLaveaga Disc Golf Course
DeLaveaga Disc Golf Course, commonly known as "DeLa", is a world-renowned 29-hole disc golf course in the hills of DeLaveaga Park above Santa Cruz, California. It was established in 1984. It boasts one of the original long disc golf courses, with some holes measuring more than 500 feet in length. The 27th hole, known as "Top of the World," is one of the most famous holes in disc golf; the tee box is situated nearly 600 feet from the pin—and 100 feet above it. DeLaveaga placed #10 on UDisc, Release Point's 2019 list of World's Best Disc Golf Courses. Designed by Professional Disc Golf Association hall of famer and World Disc Games founder Tom Schot. DeLa was installed in 1984 and was one of the first organized courses for disc golf. Holes #8A and #26A were added later. Professional Disc Golf Association
The Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit membership organization dedicated to the promotion and sustainable growth of disc golf. The PDGA is the global governing body of disc golf. The organization promotes the sport through tournament development, course development, rules and competitive standards, media and sponsor relations, and public education and outreach. Masters Tournament
The Masters Tournament (usually referred to as simply the Masters, or as the U.S. Masters outside North America) is one of the four men's major championships in professional golf. Scheduled for the first full week in April, the Masters is the first major golf tournament of the year. Unlike the other major tournaments, the Masters is always held at the same location: Augusta National Golf Club, a private course in the city of Augusta, Georgia. Amateur golf champion Bobby Jones and investment banker Clifford Roberts founded the tournament. After his grand slam in 1930, Jones acquired the former plant nursery and co-designed Augusta National with course architect Alister MacKenzie. The Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA of America) is an American organization of professional golfer, golf professionals that was founded in 1916. Consisting of nearly 29,000 members, the PGA of America's undertaking is to establish and elevate the standards of the profession and to grow interest and participation in the game of golf. Ken Climo
Ken "The Champ" Climo (born March 27, 1968, in Clearwater, Florida) is an American professional disc golfer considered by some to be the best professional disc golfer of all time. Climo has claimed twelve PDGA PDGA World Championships, World Championship titles, including nine in as many years from 1990 to 1998. The only other golfers to achieve multiple World titles are Harold Duvall (1982, 1985), Barry Schultz (2003–2004), Nate Doss (2005, 2007, 2011), Paul McBeth (2012–2015, 2019, 2022), Ricky Wysocki, Richard Wysocki (2016, 2017) and Isaac Robinson (2023, 2024).
