This list of Maryland state parks includes the state parks and state battlefields listed in the Maryland Department of Natural Resources's current acreage report. Generally, the Maryland Park Service, a unit of and under the authority of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), is the governing body for these parks, although some have been turned over to local authorities. Chapman State Park (Maryland)
Chapman State Park is a public recreation and historic preservation area bordering the Potomac River in Charles County, Maryland, Charles County, Maryland. The state park preserves the mansion and grounds of Mount Aventine, the historic home of the Chapman family, who had significant ties to many of the Founding Fathers of the United States, Founding Fathers. The State of Maryland purchased Mount Aventine and established Chapman State Park in 1998. The park's diverse, heavily wooded biosphere is home to many rare and disjunct plant and animal species. Charles County is a county located in the U.S. state of Maryland. As of the 2020 United States census, the population was 166,617. The county seat is La Plata. The county was named for Charles Calvert (1637–1715), third Baron Baltimore. The county is part of the Southern Maryland region of the state. Chapel Point State Park
Chapel Point State Park is an undeveloped public recreation area located on the Port Tobacco River, a tributary of the Potomac, in Charles County, Maryland. The state park offers fishing and hunting and is under the management of Charles County. History Chapel Point was once part of the St. Thomas Manor patented by the Roman Catholic Church in 1638. In the 1880s, the Jesuits, in partnership with J. C. and W. M. Howard, built a resort known as Hotel Belleview on Chapel Point, with guests brought in by steamboat from Washington, D.C. In 1924, the site hosted the first Charles County Fair. From about 1926 to 1948, Chapel Point was the site of an amusement park that offered picnicking, rollerskating, a restaurant, beach with bath houses, and hotel.
