The Mary River (Gubbi Gubbi language, Gubbi Gubbi: Moocooboola) is a major river system in the South East Queensland, South East and Wide Bay–Burnett regions of Queensland, Australia. It is the six longest coastal river in the state and unique in that it flows south to north. Mary River Cod
The Mary River cod (''Maccullochella mariensis'') is a species of temperate perch native to the coastal Mary River system of southern Queensland, Australia. Mary River cod are one of Australia's most endangered freshwater fishes and are notable for being the most northerly of the four '' Maccullochella'' cods found or once found in coastal river systems of eastern Australia. The endangered status of the fish was one of the reasons that the Traveston Crossing Dam was not able to be built. The species is very territorial, staying in the same spot for 98% of the time, leaving only to feed and breed. Description The Mary River cod is a large fish recorded up to almost 40 kg and 120 cm in the early years of European settlement, but now are mostly less than 5 kg and 70 cm. Very similar in appearance to Murray cod and eastern freshwater cod, they are striking looking, golden-yellow to dark green or brown, deep-bodied fish with dark green to black mottling. C ...

Mary River Turtle
The Mary River turtle (''Elusor macrurus'') is an endangered species of short-necked turtle in the family Chelidae. The species is endemic to the Mary River in south-east Queensland, Australia. Although this turtle was known to inhabit the Mary River for nearly 30 years, it was not until 1994 that it was recognised as a new species. There has been a dramatic decrease in its population due to low reproduction rates and an increase of depredation on nests. Taxonomy and common names The Mary River turtle was first formally described in 1994. The Mary River turtle is also commonly called the green-haired turtle and the punk turtle, due to the algae that grows on its head or shell. ''Elusor'' is a monotypic genus representing a very old lineage of turtles that has all but disappeared from the evolutionary history of Australia. Description Unusually for turtles, males are larger than females in this species. Male Mary River turtles are one of Australia's largest turtles. Specimen ...

Mary River Mine
The Mary River Mine is an Open-pit mining, open-pit Iron ore, iron ore mine in the Mary River (Nunavut), Mary River area of Baffin Island, Canada. It is operated by the Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation (BIMC). As of 2021, the operation consists of an open-pit mine, two work camps for hundreds of workers, a ''tote road''—from the Mary River site to Milne Inlet—and port infrastructure at Milne Inlet. According to a 4-year study published in 2008, the Mary River Mine, with its four massive iron ore deposits of 65-70% pure iron ore was "one of the most promising undeveloped iron deposits on the planet". It was not until technological advances were in place in 2010, and the market for iron ore had dramatically increased that sizable financial backing was available for the high cost of development in a remote region known for its inhospitable climate. The mine began operations in 2014, and the first shipment to Europe arrived in 2015. Baffinland is currently planning on expanding th ...

Between the forks of the river there is a broad, flat-topped ridge, with an elevation of , which is partly covered with washed gravel. At the edge of the Imuruk lowlands, where the Mary River enters them, there are gravel bluffs and isolated gravel buttes. These bluffs and buttes are remnants of a higher gravel plain. On the ridge between the forks of the Mary River, there are two low, rocky buttes, which, on account of the ...
