Lady Mary Faith Montagu
Lady Mary Faith Culme-Seymour, Lady Culme-Seymour (née Montagu, previously Nesbitt; 1 November 1911 – 16 February 1983) was a British aristocrat and letter writer. The daughter of the 9th Earl of Sandwich and American heiress Alberta Sturges, she grew up at the family's ancestral seat, Hinchingbrooke House in Huntingdon. When her brother, Victor Montagu, 10th Earl of Sandwich, sold the family home in 1955, Lady Faith took her close friend, the novelist E. M. Forster, to see it one last time. Her last tour of the home with Forster was an emotional one, and she documented the experience in her diary and in letters. She and Forster, who initially offered her advice on short story writing, remained friends until his death. Through her second marriage, to Sir Michael Culme-Seymour, 5th Baronet, Lady Faith was the châtelaine of Rockingham Castle in Northamptonshire, where she oversaw the renovation and redecoration of the house. Lady Mary Wortley Montagu
Lady Mary Wortley Montagu (née Pierrepont; 15 May 168921 August 1762) was an English aristocrat, medical pioneer, writer, and poet. Born in 1689, Lady Mary spent her early life in England. In 1712, Lady Mary married Edward Wortley Montagu, who later served as the British ambassador to the Sublime Porte. Lady Mary joined her husband on the Ottoman excursion, where she was to spend the next two years of her life. During her time there, Lady Mary wrote extensively on her experience as a woman in Ottoman Constantinople. After her return to England, Lady Mary devoted her attention to the upbringing of her family before dying of cancer in 1762. (Vreda Esther) Mary Montagu Douglas Scott, Duchess of Buccleuch and Queensberry (17 September 1900 – 9 February 1993), was the elder of the two daughters of Maj. William Frank Lascelles, the son of diplomat Frank Lascelles (23 March 1841 – 2 January 1920). She was commonly known as Molly Buccleuch. Her mother was Lady Sybil Evelyn de Vere Beauclerk, daughter of William Beauclerk, 10th Duke of St Albans, and his first wife, Sybil Mary Grey (28 November 1848 – 7 September 1871). Through her mother, Mary was descended from Charles Beauclerk, 1st Duke of St Albans (1670–1726), illegitimate son of King Charles II of England and his mistress Nell Gwynn. On 21 April 1921, she married Walter Montagu Douglas Scott, 8th Duke of Buccleuch and 10th Duke of Queensberry; she was styled "Duchess of Buccleuch" from 19 October 1935. Mary Montagu, Duchess of Montagu (15 July 1689 – 14 May 1751), formerly Lady Mary Churchill, was a British court official and noble, the wife of John Montagu, 2nd Duke of Montagu. She was the youngest surviving daughter of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, and his wife, Sarah Jenyns. Life She married Montagu on 17 March 1705, when he was Earl of Montagu. Mary Montagu, Duchess of Montagu (c.1711/1712 – 2 May 1775), known as Countess of Cardigan between 1730 and 1749, was the wife of George Brudenell, 4th Earl of Cardigan. She was the daughter of John Montagu, 2nd Duke of Montagu, on whose death in 1749 her husband inherited the family estates and took the surname "Montagu". Her mother was Lady Mary Churchill, daughter of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough. In 1766, her husband the earl was made a duke, reviving the titles that had become extinct as a result of his father-in-law's death without a male heir. Lady Mary married the earl on 7 July 1730 at St Giles-in-the-Fields. Mary Stuart, Countess of Bute, 1st Baroness Mount Stuart (; 19 January 1718 – 6 November 1794) was the wife of British nobleman John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute, who served as Prime Minister from 1762 to 1763. Life and family Lady Bute was born in 1718, the only daughter of Sir Edward Wortley Montagu and Lady Mary Pierrepont, the daughter of Evelyn Pierrepont, 1st Duke of Kingston-upon-Hull. She was born during her father's tenure as ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, which her mother wrote about in her Letters from Turkey. Lady Bute later burned the diaries of her mother, much to the dismay and disapproval of historians.
