Mary Harrison (1788 – 25 November 1875) was an English flower and fruit painter, and illustrator. She became popularly called the "Rose and Primrose painter". She has also been known as Mary P. Harrison and Mary Rossiter Harrison. Life and work She was born Mary P. Rossiter,Cundall, H. M. A history of British water colour painting' (London: J. Murray, 1908) p. 218. in Liverpool, the daughter of William Rossiter, a prosperous hat manufacturer of Stockport and Liverpool. She was a talented amateur artist from an early age though, from all accounts, she received little encouragement from her parents, even having to improvise paint-brushes from locks of her own hair, and make up pigments from household products; She practiced her art by copying from art prints. Mabel Harrison (1886 – 22 April 1972) was an Irish golfer, winner of the Irish Ladies' Close Championship in 1910, 1911, and 1912. (Some news reports referred to her, apparently in error, as Mary Harrison.) Early life Frances Mabel Harrison was born in Dublin, the daughter of Robert Francis Harrison and Agnes Blanche Bagwell. Her parents married at St. George's Church, Dublin. Her father was a prominent barrister in Dublin; her grandfather Michael Harrison was a judge. Career Mabel Harrison is counted alongside May Hezlet and Rhona Adair as a pioneer of Irish women's golf. She began playing golf in competition when she was still a teenager. She joined the Malahide Island Club as golfer in 1905, and is remembered as one of the club's "most famous members". She was also a member of the Hermitage and Royal Portrush clubs. Mary Dimmick Harrison ( Mary Scott Lord; April 30, 1858 – January 5, 1948) was the second wife of Benjamin Harrison, the 23rd president of the United States. She was nearly 25 years younger than Harrison, and was the niece of his first wife. Biography Born in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, as Mary Scott Lord, she was the daughter of Russell Farnham Lord, chief engineer of the Delaware and Hudson Canal (later known as the Delaware and Hudson Railway), and his wife Elizabeth Mayhew Scott. On October 22, 1881, she married Walter Erskine Dimmick (July 4, 1856 – January 14, 1882), a son of the attorney-general of Pennsylvania and brother of future Scranton mayor J. Benjamin Dimmick. Mary Scott McKee ( Harrison; April 3, 1858 – October 28, 1930) was the only daughter of Benjamin Harrison, the 23rd president of the United States, and his wife Caroline Scott Harrison outside of her infant sister who died shortly after birth. After her mother died in 1892, McKee served as her father's First Lady for the remainder of his term.
