Mary Davidson (Irish Politician)
Mary Frances Davidson (1902 – 29 May 1986) was an Irish Labour Party politician. She was elected to Seanad Éireann on the Industrial and Commercial Panel at a by-election on 16 June 1950. She lost her seat at the 1951 Seanad election but was re-elected at the 1954 Seanad election and was re-elected at each subsequent election until she retired at the 1969 Seanad election. Mary Davidson (artist)
Mary C. Davidson (1865–1951) was a Scottish artist, notable for her landscape and flower paintings. Biography Davidson was born in Aberdeenshire and grew up in Aboyne, one of ten children in a well-known local family. She painted landscapes in both Scotland and France. In 1936 Davidson visited India where, among other landscapes, she produced a series of paintings of the mosque at Kohat, now in modern-day Pakistan. Davidson lived in Edinburgh for many years but gave up her art career for an extended period to care for her parents and only resumed painting after their deaths, but failing eyesight cut short her own career. Davidson had twenty-four paintings exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy between 1906 and 1936. In 1936 she was elected a member of the Royal Watercolour Society, who showed some 44 of her works during her career. Davidson received her master's degree in journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. She was the editor and publisher of the Carthage Republican newspaper. Mary Ann Maitland (, Davidson; 26 January 1839 — 24 February 1919) was a Scottish-born Canadian author of poems, hymns, and short stories. The "Ann" character in Maitland's short story, "Charity Ann: Founded on Facts" (''Godey's Lady's Book'', January 1892), provided the background for Anne Shirley's history and adoption in ''Anne of Green Gables''. Early life Mary Ann Davidson was born in Elgin, Moray, Scotland, 26 January 1839. She is a daughter of James Alexander Davidson, the first teacher in the Infant School of Elgin, and Elizabeth Wilson Maitland. She was a maternal granddaughter of the List of provosts of Elgin, Provost Wilson of that town. Maitland came to Canada with her father in 1857, when she was 18 years of age.
