Martin Donnelly (civil Servant)
Sir Martin Eugene Donnelly, (born 4 June 1958) is a British former civil servant. His roles included permanent secretary of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (2010–2016), and of the Department for International Trade (2016–2017). Career Donnelly joined the Treasury in 1980. In 1988 he was Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, and from 1989 in Brussels working in the Cabinet of Leon Brittan before returning to London in 1993. In 1995 he went on secondment to the French Ministry of Finance, returning to the Treasury in 1996. From 1998 to 2003 he worked in the Cabinet Office as Deputy Head of the European Secretariat and then moved to the Immigration and Nationality Directorate of the Home Office for a year. In 2004, Donnelly was promoted to be Director-General for Economics (later, for Europe and Globalisation) in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Martin Donnelly (sportsman)
Martin Paterson Donnelly (17 October 1917 – 22 October 1999) was a New Zealand-born sportsman who played Test cricket for New Zealand and rugby union for England. He worked for Courtaulds in England and Sydney. Personal life Born in Ngāruawāhia, New Zealand, Donnelly's twin brother Maurice died in the Spanish flu epidemic in 1918. Donnelly's maternal great-grandfather, William Butler was a British Army veteran in the 20th Regiment of Foot later renamed the Lancashire Fusiliers and settled in Howick, New Zealand in 1847 as part of the Royal New Zealand Fencible Corps. Cricket career 1930s Donnelly's sporting talent emerged quickly and Donnelly became known for his batting and fielding skills, as well as his prowess at Rugby Union. He attended New Plymouth Boys' High School, and quickly made an impact- recording 187 for NPBHS in a club match in 1934 which stood as a school record for 76 years. Martin Donnelly (footballer, Born 1988)
Martin Donnelly (born 28 August 1988) is a Northern Irish retired footballer born in Belfast who played as a winger. After previously playing for Sheffield United and Rochdale, without appearing in the Football League, Donnelly signed for Crusaders in the summer of 2008, and won the Irish Cup in 2009. Along with team-mate Colin Coates, he was called up to the Northern Ireland squad for the match against Italy on 6 June 2009. Donnelly entered the game as an 82nd-minute substitute to win his first full cap, to add to the three under-21 caps he had won previously. During his time with the Crues, he made a total of 126 appearances, scoring 22 goals. After turning down the club's offer of a new contract midway through the 2010–11 season, Donnelly joined North Belfast rivals Cliftonville on a two-year contract, of whom he is a lifelong fan.
