Marshal Of The Diplomatic Corps
His Majesty's Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps is a senior member of the Royal Household of the Sovereign of the United Kingdom. He is the King's link with the diplomatic community in London, arranges the annual diplomatic corps reception by the Sovereign, organises the regular presentation of credentials ceremonies for ambassadors and high commissioners, as well as supervises attendance of diplomats at state events. Marshals generally hold office for ten-year terms and were formerly retired senior military officers, though the last three marshals have been diplomats. The marshal is assisted by the Vice-Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps, the First Assistant Marshal, in addition to other assistant marshals. Marcus Cheke
Sir Marcus John Cheke (20 October 1906 – 22 June 1960) was a British diplomat and courtier. Career Marcus Cheke was educated at Clayesmore School and Trinity College, Oxford. In the British general election of 1929 he stood as Liberal candidate for the New Forest and Christchurch constituency but was defeated by the sitting MP, Wilfrid Ashley. Cheke was Honorary Attaché at the British Embassy, Lisbon, 1931–34 and at Brussels 1934–37; Press Attaché, Lisbon, 1938–42; attached to the staff of the Lisbon Embassy with the local rank of First Secretary 1942–45; and Vice-Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps 1946–57. Alistair Harrison
William Alistair Harrison (born 14 November 1954) is His Majesty's Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps. He was previously Governor of Anguilla from 21 April 2009 to 23 July 2013. Early life Harrison was born on 14 November 1954 in Guisborough, North Yorkshire, in the United Kingdom. He studied at the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle. Charles Gray (diplomat)
John Charles Rodger Gray (born 1953) is a former British diplomat who served as Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps. Gray was educated at the University of Glasgow before joining the British Diplomatic Service in 1974. After two years at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office he was posted to Warsaw in 1976. Gray served as Head of the Middle East Department between 2002 and 2004. He was invested as a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George in 2003 for services in connection with the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Anthony Figgis
Sir Anthony St John Howard Figgis, (born October 1940) was Her Majesty's Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps in the Royal Household of the Sovereign of the United Kingdom from 2001 to 2008. Unusually, he also held the post of Her Majesty's Vice-Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps, from 1991 to 1996, when he became Her Britannic Majesty's Ambassador to Austria. Sir James Lamb Weatherall (28 February 1936 – 18 March 2018) was a senior Royal Navy officer who served as Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic from 1989 to 1991 and then as Her Majesty's Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps from 1992 to 2001. Major General Lord Michael Fitzalan-Howard, (22 October 1916 – 2 November 2007), styled The Honourable Michael Fitzalan-Howard until 1975, was a senior officer in the British Army and a member of the Howard family.
