Marie C. Ingalls
Marie C. Ingalls (March 31, 1936 – April 15, 2023) was an American politician. She served as a Republican member of the South Dakota House of Representatives. Life and career Ingalls was born March 31, 1936, in Faith, South Dakota to Ida and Jens Peder Jensen. She attended the local school graduating in 1954 and then in 1955 marrying Dale Ingall. She worked as a teacher and became the Principal for Meade County rural schools from 1976 until 1981. Ingalls was elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives in 1986 as a Republican. She served in the house from 1987 to 1992. Faith, South Dakota
Faith is a city in the northeastern corner of Meade County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 367 at the 2020 census. The most complete ''Tyrannosaurus rex'' skeleton known, Sue, was discovered approximately northeast of Faith in August 1990. History According to folk etymology, the town was named Faith because it took faith to live out on the prairie. However, the story of the city as documented in various informal, locally published histories, is that the town was named for Faith Rockefeller, one of the daughters of a major investor in the railroad responsible for founding the town. This is in keeping with the names of other towns on the route of the old railroad (now abandoned), such as Isabel, South Dakota. South Dakota Legislature
The South Dakota Legislature is the legislative branch of the government of South Dakota. It is a bicameral legislative body, consisting of the South Dakota Senate, which has 35 members, and the South Dakota House of Representatives, which has 70 members. The two houses are similar in most respects; the Senate and House hold the right to confirm gubernatorial appointments to certain offices. In addition, the Senate votes by roll call vote, whereas the larger house uses an electronic voting system. The legislature meets at the South Dakota State Capitol in Pierre. South Dakota State Capitol
The South Dakota State Capitol is the state capitol building of the U.S. state of South Dakota. Housing the South Dakota State Legislature, it is located in the state capital of Pierre at 500 East Capitol Avenue. The building houses the offices of most state officials, including the Governor of South Dakota. Construction The building was constructed between 1905 and 1910. The designs for the building were executed by the Minneapolis architectural firm of Bell & Detweiler, who gave the building similar features to the Montana State Capitol in Helena, Montana. The planning and construction cost was almost $1 million. In 1921 plans began for a large addition located on the building's north side. Initial plans for the Capitol Annex were prepared by Bell's later firm, Bell & Kinports. Construction costs were estimated at $500,000. Half-mast
Half-mast or half-staff (American English) refers to a flag flying below the summit of a ship mast, a pole on land, or a pole on a building. In many countries this is seen as a symbol of respect, mourning, distress, or, in some cases, a salute. The tradition of flying the flag at half-mast began in the 17th century. According to some sources, the flag is lowered to make room for an "invisible flag of death" flying above. However, there is disagreement about where on a flagpole a flag should be when it is at half-mast. It is often recommended that a flag at half-mast be lowered only as much as the hoist, or width, of the flag. British flag protocol is that a flag should be flown no less than two-thirds of the way up the flagpole, with at least the height of the flag between the top of the flag and the top of the pole.
