Mard Castle
Marid Castle (or Marid balance) is a historic military fortress located in the city of Dumat al-Jandal in the Al-Jawf region of Saudi Arabia, about 50 km from Sakaka. Built in the first century AD, it was first mentioned in the third century in the context of Queen Zenobia's campaign against Dumat al-Jandal and Tayma's rebellion, when her troops weren't able to capture the fortress. Etymology The castle of Marid was named for its rebellion and insurrection against those trying to storm it, as stated by Yaqout al-Hamwi. Location The castle is located on a hill rising to about 620 meters above sea level, and overlooks the city of Dumat al-Jandal, which is affiliated to the Al-Jawf region from the western side. Main Assisted Reserve Deployment
A main assisted reserve deployment (MARD) system is a skydiving safety device for parachute systems. While there are many variations, the operation and intended outcome for each is the same: open the reserve parachute container and extract the reserve parachute's deployment bag (and parachute) using the jettisoned main canopy. A MARD builds upon how a reserve static line (RSL) safety device works and in most circumstances, MARDs incorporate an RSL. Parachute deployment To understand what and how a MARD works, it is important to describe deployment systems and how a MARD is built upon these. In modern, common sport parachute systems, there are two parachutes: a main and a reserve. There are three types of intended parachute deployments: main only, reserve only, and main deployment and jettison followed by the reserve. A reserve deployment followed by a main deployment is a fourth and not intended deployment sequence. MARDs and RSLs operate with the reserve deployment, and there ... Mean Absolute Relative Difference
Noninvasive glucose monitoring (NIGM), called Noninvasive continuous glucose monitoring when used as a CGM technique, is the measurement of blood glucose levels, required by people with diabetes to prevent both chronic and acute complications from the disease, without drawing blood, puncturing the skin, or causing pain or trauma. The search for a successful technique began about 1975 and has continued to the present without a clinically or commercially viable product. Early history , only one such product had been approved for sale by the FDA, based on a technique for electrically pulling glucose through intact skin, and it was withdrawn after a short time owing to poor performance and occasional damage to the skin of users. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been invested in companies who have sought the solution to this long-standing problem. Approaches that have been tried include near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS, measuring glucose through the skin using light of slightly lo ... Mard O Mard
''Mard ō mard'' (Middle Persian; literally "man to man") was an ancient Iranian tradition of single combat, the Sasanian Empire being most known for using it. During a battle, the Sasanian troops would use taunts and war cries to provoke the enemy into a single duel with a Sasanian champion. The tradition meant much to the Sasanians—in 421, during Bahram V's war against the Romans in 421–422, Ardazanes, a member of the " Immortals", was in a single duel killed by the Roman ''comes'' Areobindus, which contributed to Bahram V's acceptance of the defeat in the war and making peace with the Romans. In Sasanian art several ''mard o mard'' depictions are preserved in rock-reliefs in Naqsh-e Rostam and in a cameo of Shapur I and Valerian. Single combats have been narrated in ''Shahnameh'' ("The Book of Kings") of Ferdowsi, a notable example being those of the story of ''Davazdah Rokh Davāzdah Rokh () (Twelve combats) is a story in Shahnameh.
