''Map of the Past'' is the fifth studio album by progressive rock band It Bites. It was released on March 26, 2012. This is the band's first concept album. It was written by singer/guitarist John Mitchell and keyboardist John Beck throughout 2011. This concept deals with the theme of the past, as seen through old photographs. It Bites
It Bites are an English progressive rock and pop fusion band, formed in Egremont, Cumbria, in 1982 and best known for their 1986 single "Calling All the Heroes", which gained them a Top 10 UK Singles Chart hit. Initially fronted by Francis Dunnery, the band split in 1990, eventually returning in 2006 with new frontman John Mitchell. Pop Rock
Pop rock (also typeset as pop/rock) is a fusion genre with an emphasis on professional songwriting and recording craft, and less emphasis on attitude than rock music. Inside Out Music is a German independent record label originally based in Kleve, North Rhine-Westphalia, and dedicated to the publication of progressive rock, progressive metal and related styles. In 2009, it formed a partnership with Century Media Records and moved its base of operations to Dortmund, also in North Rhine-Westphalia. In August 2015, Century Media was acquired by Sony Music and became its premier label for progressive music. The Tall Ships
''The Tall Ships'' is the fourth studio album by British progressive rock band It Bites. ''The Tall Ships'' was recorded following the relaunch of It Bites featuring a new singer & guitarist, John Mitchell. This lineup toured successfully in 2006 and released a live album called ''When the Lights Go Down'' on which they predominantly covered old material from the band's first lineup (bar one song, "Playground", written by the current band featuring Mitchell, which would be recorded again for ''The Tall Ships''). It Bites spent eight months writing and recording ''The Tall Ships'', with writing duties predominantly handled by Mitchell and keyboardist John Beck. John Mitchell (musician)
John Mitchell (born 21 June 1973) is a musician and record producer. He primarily plays guitar and has been a member of the bands It Bites, Arena, Frost*, Kino, A, The Urbane and Lonely Robot. Early life and career Mitchell describes seeing Eric Clapton perform the song "Miss You" from his 1986 album ''August'' at a Prince's Trust concert as 'the single defining moment that made me decide to put down the violin and pick up a guitar'. Influenced by guitarists such as Jeff Beck, Trevor Rabin and David Gilmour, Mitchell mainly sings and plays guitar, but is also a multi-instrumentalist. He is best known as the current frontman for British prog-pop band It Bites (having replaced original singer and guitarist Francis Dunnery in 2006). John Beck (It Bites)
John Beck is an English musician and songwriter, best known for his role as a member of progressive rock/pop fusion band It Bites (who scored a number 6 hit in the UK singles chart in 1986 with 'Calling All the Heroes'). Beck is a multi-instrumentalist, playing keyboards, accordion, guitar, bass guitar and drums: he is also a singer (mainly of harmony vocals). Onstage and on record he almost entirely restricts himself to keyboards and vocals (although he has been known to play live rhythm guitar on performances of It Bites' 'Still Too Young to Remember').
