Mantinae
Mantinae is a subfamily of praying mantids of the Family (biology), family Mantidae. It was authored by Hermann Burmeister in 1838. Tribes and genera The ''Mantodea Species File'' now lists just three Genus, genera here, effectively in a single Tribe (biology), tribe: Mantini * ''Mantilia'' - monotypic ''Mantilia ehrmanni'' Roy, 1993 * ''Mantis (genus), Mantis'' (Carl Linnaeus, Linnaeus, 10th edition of Systema Naturae, 1758) * ''Statilia'' (Stal, 1877) Tribes moved elsewhere * Archimantini is now in the Hierodulinae * Paramantini is now in the new subfamily Tenoderinae * Polyspilotini is now Tenoderini in the Tenoderinae References External links Tree of Life - Mantinae

Tenoderini
The ''Tenoderinae'' are a subfamily of praying mantids, originally used by Brunner von Wattenwyl. It was restored as part of a major revision of mantid taxonomy, and contains many genera previously placed in the subfamily Mantinae. The new placement means that this taxon is part of the superfamily Mantoidea (of group Cernomantodea) and infraorder Schizomantodea. Species have been recorded from: Africa, Europe and Asia. Tribes and genera This new subfamily now contains many genera that were previously placed elsewhere including the Mantinae. The ''Mantodea Species File'' lists two tribes here: Paramantini ;subtribe Paramantina * '' Alalomantis'' Giglio-Tos, 1917 * '' Epitenodera'' Giglio-Tos, 1911 * '' Paramantis'' Ragge & Roy, 1967 * '' Rhomboderella'' Giglio-Tos, 1912 * ''Sphodromantis ''Sphodromantis'' is a large genus of praying mantises concentrated in Africa, sometimes considered a synonym of the genus ''Hierodula'': from the same family, Mantidae. Praying Mantids
Mantidae is one of the largest families in the order of praying mantises, based on the type species ''Mantis religiosa''; most genera are tropical or subtropical. Historically, this was the only family in the order, and many references still use the term "mantid" to refer to any mantis. Technically, however, "mantid" refers only to members of the family Mantidae, and not the numerous remaining families of mantises. Some of the most recent classifications have promoted a number of the mantid subfamilies to the rank of family, e.g. Iridopterygidae, Sibyllidae, Tarachodidae, Thespidae, and Toxoderidae, while other classifications have reduced the number of subfamilies without elevating them to higher rank. Subfamilies and genera Following the major revision of the Mantodea in 2019, the ''Mantodea Species File'' includes ten subfamilies: Choeradodinae The Americas, Asia * ''Asiadodis'' Roy, 2004 * ''Choeradodis'' Serville, 1831 Deromantinae Africa * '' Deromantis'' Giglio- ...

10th Edition Of Systema Naturae
The 10th edition of ''Systema Naturae'' (Latin; the English title is ''A General System of Nature'') is a book written by Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus and published in two volumes in 1758 and 1759, which marks the starting point of zoological nomenclature. In it, Linnaeus introduced binomial nomenclature for animals, something he had already done for plants in his 1753 publication of ''Species Plantarum''. Starting point Before 1758, most biological catalogues had used polynomial names for the taxa included, including earlier editions of ''Systema Naturae''. The first work to consistently apply binomial nomenclature across the animal kingdom was the 10th edition of ''Systema Naturae''. The International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature therefore chose 1 January 1758 as the "starting point" for zoological nomenclature and asserted that the 10th edition of ''Systema Naturae'' was to be treated as if published on that date. Names published before that date are unavailable, ...

Carl Linnaeus
Carl Linnaeus (23 May 1707 – 10 January 1778), also known after ennoblement in 1761 as Carl von Linné,#Blunt, Blunt (2004), p. 171. was a Swedish biologist and physician who formalised binomial nomenclature, the modern system of naming organisms. He is known as the "father of modern Taxonomy (biology), taxonomy". Many of his writings were in Latin; his name is rendered in Latin as and, after his 1761 ennoblement, as . Linnaeus was the son of a curate and was born in Råshult, in the countryside of Småland, southern Sweden. He received most of his higher education at Uppsala University and began giving lectures in botany there in 1730. He lived abroad between 1735 and 1738, where he studied and also published the first edition of his ' in the Netherlands. He then returned to Sweden where he became professor of medicine and botany at Uppsala. In the 1740s, he was sent on several journeys through Sweden to find and classify plants and animals. In the 1750s and 1760s, he co ...

Mantis Religiosa
The European mantis (''Mantis religiosa'') is a large Hemimetabolism, hemimetabolic insect in the Mantidae family, which is the largest family of the order Mantodea (mantises). Their common name praying mantis is derived from the distinctive posture of the first pair of legs that can be observed the mantis is in repose, resembling a praying position. Both males and females have elongated bodies with two pairs of wings. The most striking features that all Mantodea share are a very mobile, triangular head with large compound eyes and their first pair of legs (the 'raptorial legs'), which is highly modified for the efficient capture and restraint of fast-moving or flying prey. In Germany, ''M. religiosa'' is listed as ''Gefährdet'' [endangered] on the German Red List on the basis of an assessment from 1998. It is not supposed to be caught or held as a pet. At a global level, it is assessed by the IUCN as least concern. Anatomy Though females of ''M. religiosa'' are usually large ...
