Herkus Mantas
Herkus Monte (also Hercus; Old Prussian: ''Erks Mānts''; ; ) was the most famous leader of the Great Prussian Uprising against the Teutonic Knights and Northern Crusaders. The uprising began in September 1260, following the Knights' defeat at the Battle of Durbe, and lasted for the next fourteen years. History The ''Chronicon terrae Prussiae'' stated that Herkus was originally from Natangia, one of the lands of the Old Prussians. The Prussians were the first of the Baltic tribes to be conquered by the Teutonic Knights, who first arrived in Chełmno in 1226 at the request of Konrad I of Masovia, whose own struggle with the Prussians had proved unsuccessful. As part of the Northern Crusades, the Knights proceeded to attack the Prussians with the purported aim of converting them to Christianity. Jeffrey Dunn
Jeffrey "Mantas" Dunn (born 22 April 1961) is a British guitarist and one of the founding members of the heavy metal band Venom, with which he played as a guitarist from 1979 to 1985 and 1989 to 2002. From 2015 to 2024, he played in Venom Inc. alongside fellow former Venom member bassist/vocalist Tony Dolan, who he had previously played with in MPire of Evil from 2012. Career after Venom In 1986, Dunn left Venom to form the band Mantas which has recorded two full-length albums, ''Winds of Change'' in 1988 and ''Zero Tolerance'' in 2004. In 1992, he played guitars for Warfare, a new wave of British heavy metal band. In 2006, Mantas toured with German hardcore techno act Scooter in Germany as an additional member on guitar; he admitted being apprehensive about the job, as he wasn't a fan of Scooter's music, but admitted to greatly enjoying the tour. Nick Mantas (born 1983) is a Canadian politician who currently sits as a member of the Toronto City Council for Ward 22 Scarborough—Agincourt. Mantas was elected in a by-election held on January 15, 2021. Prior to his election, Mantas worked as a policy advisor and civil servant in the City of Toronto and federal government. Background Mantas holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in economics from York University. He worked as a federal constituency assistant, a policy advisor to the Senate of Canada and chief of staff for Councillor Jim Karygiannis. In 2014, following Karygiannis' resignation as a member of Parliament (MP) to run for Toronto City Council, Mantas sought the federal Liberal Party nomination for the Scarborough—Agincourt by-election.
