Mano People
Mano known also as Mano-Dan, Dan people, Yacouba is an ethnic group of Liberia and Guinea. The group speaks the Mano language, which belongs to the Mande languages, Mande language family. Mano people in Liberia The Mano ethnic group occupy the northeastern part of Liberia known as Nimba County and some parts of modern-day Guinea, in the forest section of that republic. According to John Gbatu, (1919-2010), a prominent Mano tribal leader, the name Nimba originates with the Mano dialect which in Mano is Niemba/Nyamba Tun (Mount Nimba). The meaning is "hills on which young maidens will slip and fall". This is so because the Mano used to worship Wala/Ya'ala/Nyamba (the Creator God) up what is today known as Mt. Nimba in Liberia. They occupied major cities and towns in Niemba such as Ganta, Yekepa, Sanniquellie, and Scalepea amongst others. According to Stanley Delano Quaye (1985-), a Liberian Historical Economist and Banker and grandson of John Gbatu, the Mano belongs to the Mand ...

Movement Of Organized Nationalist Action
(Spanish for 'White Hand'), was a Guatemalan far-right, anti-communist death squad, set up in 1966 to prevent Julio César Méndez Montenegro from being inaugurated as the president of Guatemala. While initially autonomous from the government, it was absorbed into the Guatemalan State's counter-terror apparatus and evolved into a paramilitary unit of the Guatemalan armed forces, and was responsible for the murder and torture of thousands of people in rural Guatemala. The group received support from the Guatemalan army and government, as well as from the United States. The group was officially known as the ''Movimiento de Acción Nacionalista Organizado'' (English: Movement of Organized Nationalist Action) which gives the acronym "MANO", (Spanish: hand). The group was variously known by its full name, by MANO, or most popularly by ''Mano Blanca'', or "White Hand." Mano Machine
The Mano machine is a computer theoretically described by M. Morris Mano. It contains a central processing unit, random access memory, and an input-output bus. Its limited instruction set and small address space limit it to use as a microcontroller, but it can easily be expanded to have a 32-bit accumulator register, and 28-bit addressing using a hardware description language like Verilog or VHDL; and at the same time, make room for new instructions. Characteristics The Mano machine is similar in many respects to the PDP-8, such as the same address space, only one accumulator register, and many similar instructions. The Mano machine has a 4096x16 shared data/program memory segment requiring a 12-bit address bus. The data bus is 16 bits. There are 8-bit input/output buses for external communication, and associated interrupt flags. There is one 16-bit accumulator register, and single-bit registers ( latches) for addition carry and system halt. Instruction set There are 25 instruc ...

Mano (mythology)
In Sami mythology, Mano, Manno, Aske, or Manna is a personification of the Moon as a female deity. The Sami worldview is animistic in nature, with shamanistic features, and in that worldview their divinities occupied important positions. Every force of nature is associated with a god or goddess, and sources of livelihood are believed to be safeguarded by beings in the spiritual world that can be persuaded to be more favourable. Like other nature-deities, the goddess Mano is seen as unpredictable and dangerous. She is worshiped around the time of the new moon, especially around the Winter Solstice, and during that time it is taboo to make any kind of noise. Christian missionaries and priests normally did not understand these Pagan concepts but regarded them as Satanic. The Sami were forcibly converted to Christianity and shamanistic practices forbidden. Sami spirituality brings unearthliness—the spiritual world—to the Sami. The shaman is the intermediary between this world ...

Mano (gesture)
''Mano'' () is an honoring gesture performed in Filipino culture as a sign of respect and as a way of requesting a blessing from elders. Similar to hand-kissing, the person giving the greeting asks for permission to initiate the gesture by saying "" or " 'Pa-''less ''po''". They then bow towards the elder and touch their forehead to the back of the elder's hand. The person receiving the greeting usually offers their right hand and replies with a blessing, typically "God bless you". The word is Spanish for "hand", while the word is a Filipino honorific appended to sentences to convey respect (usually when addressing elders). Put together, literally translates to " ourhand, please". The gesture is a form of greeting typically done for relatives that are older by at least one generation (grandparents, parents, aunts, and uncles; but not older siblings or cousins). It is also commonly done for godparents, friends of older relatives, older relatives of friends or partner ...

Mano (stone)
A mano ( Spanish for ''hand'') is a ground stone tool used with a metate to process or grind food by hand. It is also known as metlapil, a term derived from Nahuatl. History Manos were used in prehistoric times to process wild seeds, nuts, and other food, generally used with greater frequency in the Archaic period, when people became more reliant upon local wild plant food for their diet. Later, Manos and metates were used to process cultivated maize.Gibbon, Guy E.; Ames, Kenneth M. (1998''Archaeology of Prehistoric Native America: An Encyclopedia''.pp. 107, 166. . In its early use in the American Southwest, the mano and metate were used to grind wild plants. The mano began as a one-handed tool. Once the maize cultivation became more prevalent, the mano became a larger, two-handed tool that more efficiently ground food against an evolved basin or trough metate. Besides food, Manos and metates were used to separate and pulverize clay from earthen debris and stones. The r ...
