The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the New Zealand soap opera ''Shortland Street'' in 1994, by order of first appearance. Marilyn Bluck Marilyn Bluck (previously Harrison) was the overbearing sister in law to Jenny Harrison (Maggie Harper). Introduced at the start of 1994 as an emergency temp receptionist, Marilyn soon got under the skin of the staff by getting names wrong, changing processes, and disturbing doctors in person to see if they were available to take phone calls - as she didn't want to disturb them by simply transferring the calls. Jenny felt there was a conflict of interest in managing Marilyn's eccentricities, as Jenny owed her life to Marilyn. It was soon revealed that Marilyn was responsible for rescuing Jenny from her abusive marriage, taking Jenny and a young Nick to her Dargaville home after a hospitalisation following an assault. Jonathon McKenna
Jonathon Alexander McKenna is a fictional character in the New Zealand soap opera ''Shortland Street''. He is portrayed by Kieren Hutchison, who played the role in both recurring and regular stints in the 1990s, before returning for a six-month period during 2011. Jonathon was created as the final installment to the recently expanded McKenna family unit; he was the son of the Shortland Street clinic's CEO, Michael McKenna ( Paul Gittins). His initial storyline saw the character embark on a same-sex relationship with paramedic Jamie Forrest (Karl Urban) much to the outrage of his family and co workers. Jonathon appeared on a sporadic basis, making for 3 stints between 1993 and 1996, before returning again 15 years later. Rachel McKenna
Rachel McKenna is a fictional character from the New Zealand soap opera ''Shortland Street'', played by Angela Bloomfield and who made her first appearance in early 1993. Bloomfield left the role in late 1999, before returning in early 2001 and departing in early 2003. She returned in a guest role in mid-2007 and again in a full-time role in late 2009 before departing once again in late 2016. Arriving as part of the McKenna family unit, Rachel debuted in early 1993 alongside her mother Alex McKenna (Shortland Street), Alex (Liddy Holloway), the estranged wife of Clinic Director Michael McKenna (Shortland Street), Michael McKenna (Paul Gittins).
