Mannix Joyce
Mannix Joyce (Irish: Mainchín Seoighe, 1924 – 3 July 2006) was an Irish local historian and writer, known particularly for his publications on County Limerick. He was born in Tankardstown, Kilmallock, County Limerick. In 1941 he started work with Limerick County Council, where he remained all his life, mainly in the position of Information Officer. He was a prolific contributor to the Limerick Leader newspaper; his first article appeared in 1944 and his column (under the pen-name An Mangaire Súgach, the Merry Peddlar) continued unbroken until 2002. County Limerick
County Limerick () is a western Counties of Ireland, county in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is in the Provinces of Ireland, province of Munster and is located in the Mid-West Region, Ireland, Mid-West which comprises part of the Southern Region, Ireland, Southern Region. It is named after the city of Limerick. Limerick City and County Council is the Local government in the Republic of Ireland, local council for the county. Kilmallock
Kilmallock () is a town in south County Limerick, Republic of Ireland, Ireland, near the border with County Cork, 30 km south of Limerick city. There is a Dominican Priory in the town and King John's Castle (Kilmallock), King's Castle (or King John's Castle). The remains of medieval walls which encircled the settlement are still visible. History Foundation and development Saint Mocheallóg (literally 'Mo - Ceallach - Og' meaning 'my young Ceallach') built a church in the area in the early 7th century, and the town's name derives from the Irish ''Cill Mocheallóg'' meaning "the church of Mocheallóg". The ''Limerick Leader'' is a weekly local newspaper in Limerick, Ireland. It was founded in 1889. The newspaper is headquartered on Glentworth Street in the City. The broadsheet paper currently is distributed in three editions, City, County and West , with a small selection of content differing between the three. The newspaper also has a Monday tabloid paper, City based, with a cover price of 1 euro. In the 1950s, the ''Limerick Leader'' bought a rival newspaper the ''Limerick Chronicle''. The ''Limerick Chronicle'' was founded in 1768 by John Ferrar who was a prominent bookseller and printer in Limerick. The ''Limerick Chronicle'' is the longest running newspaper in Ireland.
