Manarola Railway Station
Manarola railway station (''Stazione di Manarola'') is located on the Genoa–Pisa railway, Italy. It serves Manarola, which is one of the five towns of the Cinque Terre. History The station was inaugurated on 24 October 1874, at the same time as the – line. Freight operations were introduced in Manarola on 15 September 1913. Double track between Manarola and was opened in 1920 and extended on 14 November 1933 as far as the Gaggiola tunnel and between Riomaggiore and Corniglia on 31 May 1959. In 1959, a new passenger building and a loading area for goods were built, as well as a pedestrian tunnel to connect with the town. On 1 December 1949, the station became an ''assuntoria'' (a station operated by an agent under contract). It is currently operated as an unstaffed halt. In June and July 2011, the station was also served by the ''Treni del Mare'' ("trains of the sea") managed by the private company Arenaways, which became bankrupt shortly afterwards. Manarola
Manarola ( in the local dialect) is a small town, a frazione of the comune (municipality) of Riomaggiore, in the province of La Spezia, Liguria, Northern Italy. It is the second-smallest of the famous Cinque Terre towns frequented by tourists, with a population of 353. Overview Manarola may be the oldest of the towns in the Cinque Terre, with the cornerstone of the church, San Lorenzo, dating from 1338. The local dialect is Manarolese, which is marginally different from the dialects in the nearby area. The name "Manarola" is probably a dialectical evolution of the Latin, ''"Magna rota"''. In the Manarolese dialect, this was changed to ''"Magna roea"'' which means "large wheel", about the mill wheel in the town. Manarola has a railway station on the Genoa–Pisa railway. Arenaways is a railway operator in Italy. It began open-access passenger operations between Milan and Turin in November 2010, competing with national monopoly operator Trenitalia. Via Dell'Amore
La via dell'Amore or The Way of Love is a pedestrian path overlooking the sea, with a length of just over one kilometer, linking the villages of Riomaggiore and Manarola, Cinque Terre, in Liguria, Italy. It is one of four sections of the Sentiero Azzurro, "the Blue Path", the most popular hiking trail in the Cinque Terre National Park. The trail's name was inspired by the fact that it provided an easy and private meeting place for young lovers who lived in the two small towns in the mountainous terrain. On September 24, 2012, a rockslide injured four tourists and caused the trail to be shut down for repairs. As of April 2015, only 200 meters of the trail had been reopened. According to press reports in late 2019, extensive work is due to begin on the repair of the trail. It required major engineering work, with an estimated cost of over 12 million euro. Cinque Terre
The Cinque Terre (; ; meaning 'Five Lands') is a coastal area within Liguria, in the northwest of Italy. It lies in the west of La Spezia Province, and comprises five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Riomaggiore (, locally ) is a village and ''comune'' in the province of La Spezia, situated in a small valley in the Liguria region of Italy. It is the most southerly of the Cinque Terre villages. The village, dating from the early thirteenth century, is known for its historic character and wine produced by the town's vineyards. Riomaggiore is in the Riviera di Levante region. It has a shoreline on the Mediterranean's Gulf of Genoa, with a small beach and a wharf framed by tower houses.
