Malta In The Eurovision Song Contest 2025
Malta was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with the song " Serving", written by Benjamin Schmid, Matthew Mercieca, Miriana Conte, and Sarah Evelyn Fullerton, and performed by Conte herself. The Maltese participating broadcaster, Public Broadcasting Services (PBS), selected its entry for the contest through the national final ''Malta Eurovision Song Contest'' (MESC) ''2025''. Malta was drawn to compete in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 15 May 2025 and was later selected to perform in position 9. At the end of the show, "Serving" was announced among the top 10 entries of the second semi-final and hence qualified to compete in the final, marking the first qualification for the country since 2021. Maltese Sign Language (, LSM) is a young sign language of Malta. Development Maltese Sign Language has existed in some form since the 1950s, when education of deaf children officially started in 1956; however, signing was neither taught nor encouraged. LSM developed into its modern form in the 1980s, with the establishment of the first deaf club in Malta in 1981, at Lastaris Wharf in Valletta. This space allowed Deaf individuals to congregate and interact more regularly, allowing the language to proliferate and develop from more basic home signs. The term "Maltese Sign Language" was first used in 1986. In the 1990s, signing began to be encouraged among Deaf students in some schools. Joe Julian Farrugia (born 9 April 1962) is a writer, songwriter and broadcaster from Malta. He was born in Gzira but moved to Paola at the age of 5. He is the youngest sibling and only son of Francis and Beatrix. He attended St. Paul's Missionary College of Rabat Malta. In 1979 Joe Julian won the Anna Muscat Azzopardi prize in the Maltese language and literature from the University of Malta. In his thirties, Joe Julian started to publish his writings.
