Malaysia At The 2012 Summer Olympics
Malaysia competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's fourteenth appearance at the Olympics, although it had previously competed in two other games under the name ''Malaya''. Malaysia did not participate at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, because of its partial support to the United States boycott. Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid was the Chef de Mission of the national delegation at the Games. Olympic Council of Malaysia sent a total of 29 athletes to the Games, 16 men and 13 women, to compete in 9 sports. This was also the youngest delegation in Malaysia's Olympic history, with more than half under the age of 25, and many of them were expected to reach their peak in time for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Olympic Council of Malaysia, or commonly OCM or MOM, (, IOC code: MAS) is the National Olympic Committee representing Malaysia. It is also the body responsible for Malaysia's representation at the Commonwealth Games, as Commonwealth Games Malaysia. History The body was founded in 1953 as the Federation of Malaya Olympic Council (FMOC). The FMOC received its recognition as the National Olympic Committee of the Federation of Malaya in May 1954. Takaharu Furukawa
is an archery athlete from Japan, competing in both individual and team archery events. He competed in the 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2020 Summer Olympics. He was the 2006 All-Japan National Champion, Archery career Furukawa began his archery career in 2001. He competed using a recursive bow. 2004-2006 archery competitions Furukawa competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men's individual archery and archery team events. Laurence Paul Godfrey (born 9 June 1976, in Bristol) is a British archer. He studied for an HND in Mechanical Manufacturing at the University of the West of England from 1997 to 2000. 2004 Summer Olympics Godfrey was the only British male to qualify for the men's tournament at Athens 2004. He competed for the United Kingdom (as Great Britain) at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men's individual archery. He won his first three elimination matches, advancing to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Godfrey faced Chen Szu-yuan of Chinese Taipei, defeating Chen 110–108 in the 12-arrow match and advancing to the semifinals. There, he faced Marco Galiazzo of Italy, losing to the eventual gold medalist 110–108. Haziq Kamaruddin (4 July 1993 – 14 May 2021) was a Malaysian sport archer. Personal life Haziq was born in Johor Bahru, Johor. A son of Kamaruddin Yusof, he studied at the University of Malaya. He married Shahira Abdul Halim and the couple had no children. Sport career Haziq was a Malaysia's recurve men's team archer and two-time Olympian who had competed the archery event in the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games. He also participated in World Archery Championships for four times from 2011 to 2017. Khairul Anuar Mohamad
Khairul Anuar bin Mohamad (born 22 September 1991) is a Malaysian professional archer. He began to compete for the national team in 2011. 2011 FITA Archery World Cup Khairul participated in the 2011 FITA Archery World Cup Stage 4 in Shanghai, China in what was only his third international tournament. He became the first Malaysian to ever win a medal at an individual World Cup event when he was defeated in the finals of the men's individual recurve event by American Joe Fanchin. 2011 Asian Archery Championships He was part of the Malaysian contingent at the 2011 Asian Archery Championships in Tehran, Iran which came away two gold medals and two silver medals. With a win over Matti Hatava of Finland (110–103) he qualified for the third round and there he faced Lee Chang-Hwan of South Korea. Both archers scored 105 points in the regular match and had to go to an extra round. Here Cheng advanced with 19 points, while Lee hit 18 points.
