Maków, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship
Maków is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Kiwity, within Lidzbark County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland. It lies approximately south-west of Kiwity, south-east of Lidzbark Warmiński, and north of the regional capital Olsztyn. History The original settlement was granted town rights in 1421, under the Chełmo Law by Janusz I, the Duke of Mazovia. Development of the town was mainly funded through market stall license fees and profits form the bath house, cropping house, and weigh house. The town thrived in the beginning of the 16th century, serving as a seat for nobility and hosted the municipal court and the territory dispute court. Maków's success was due by large part to their proximity to Lithuania serving as a trading post. Furs, wax, leather, corn, wood, and forest fruit passed from Lithuania to western Europe, and fabrics, jewels and wine was traded eastward. __NOTOC__ Maków County () is a unit of territorial administration and local government (powiat) in Masovian Voivodeship, east-central Poland. It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. Its administrative seat and largest town is Maków Mazowiecki, which lies north of Warsaw. The only other town in the county is Różan, lying east of Maków Mazowiecki. The county covers an area of . As of 2019 its total population is 45,076, out of which the population of Maków Mazowiecki is 9,776, that of Różan is 2,709, and the rural population is 32,591. Maków Mazowiecki () is a town in Poland, in the Masovian Voivodship. It is the powiat capital of Maków County (or Powiat of Maków). Its population is 10,850. History The town obtained its town charter in 1421. It was a Polish royal town, administratively located in the Masovian Voivodeship in the Greater Poland Province of the Polish Crown. A battle was fought nearby on August 19, 1920, during the Polish-Soviet War. Before 1939 about 7,000 people lived in Maków, including 4,000 Poles and 3,000 Jews.
