Mai-HiME
is a Japanese anime television series produced by Sunrise. Directed by Masakazu Obara and written by Hiroyuki Yoshino, it premiered in Japan on TV Tokyo from September 2004 to March 2005. The series focuses on the lives of HiMEs—girls with the capacity to materialize photons—gathered at Fuka Academy for secret purposes. The series was licensed for North American distribution by Bandai Entertainment and European distribution by Bandai's European subsidiary, Beez, with the first American DVD released in March 2006. Bandai released the Complete Collection DVD set in America on October 7, 2008. It is also shown on iaTV in the mid-2000s and on Comcast’s Anime Selects on Demand for a limited time. At Otakon 2013, Funimation had announced that it acquired the series, along with a handful of other former BEI titles. Hiroyuki Yoshino (screenwriter)
is a Japanese screenwriter. He has written several anime series for Sunrise, including ''My-HiME'' and ''My-Otome''. Biography Yoshino graduated from Waseda University's school of literature and later joined the staff of Tokuma Shoten's ''Animage'' magazine as a writer. It was here that the Sunrise producer Naotake Furusato offered him a position in the studio as screenwriter. After joining Sunrise, his first project as the head writer responsible for series composition was '' Mai-HiME'', whose follow-ups '' Mai-Otome'' and '' Mai-Otome Zwei'' he also went on to supervise. He authored the manga adaptation of ''Mai-Otome'' (along with Tatsuhito Higuchi) and went on to write numerous other manga series. My-HiME (manga)
is a Japanese manga series based on a Sunrise Inc., Sunrise's ''My-HiME'' series, it is following a storyline different from that of the anime. It is authored by Hajime Yatate (original creator), Noboru Kimura (scenario), and Kenetsu Satō (art). It was published for 44 chapters in Akita Shoten's Shōnen manga, ''shōnen'' manga magazine ''Weekly Shōnen Champion'' from 2004 to 2005. It was licensed for English released in North America by Tokyopop. Plot The manga follows the story of Yuuichi Tate, a recent transfer student to Fuka Academy. At Fuka, he finds out that he is the Key - the person needed to unlock greater powers - to two HiMEs, Mai Tokiha and Natsuki Kuga. The manga covers Yuuichi's relationship with the two girls as well as their battle against an organization attempting to take the power of the HiME Star for themselves.
