Mahat (surname)
Mahat () is an Ekthariya chhetri surname among Nepalese, of Khasa heritage. The name may have originated when one of the Jumli Malla kings in medieval times made his younger brother, Dharma Malla, chief of staff in the army. This granted Dharma Malla the title of Mahat (Kshatriya) (meaning ''The Great One''), and as a result, his descendants started using 'Mahat' as their surnames. Like other Khasa chetris such as Thapa, Basnyat/ Basnet, Karki and Khadka, Mahats worship Masta, a local non-vedic deity of the Karnali region. Among twelve Mastas, Khaapar Masta is their Kuldevata. Khasa Chhetris are referred to by their place of origin, and therefore Mahats are also called as Kalikote Mahat. Mahat Gaun is a market center in Chandannath Municipality in Jumla District in the Karnali Zone of north-western Nepal. The formerly village development committee was merged with Mahat Gaun, Talium, Kartik Swami, Chandannath village development committees to form the new municipality. Mahat Raghavendra is an Indian actor who works across Tamil, Telugu and Hindi cinema. He is best known for his supporting roles in the heist thriller film, ''Mankatha'' (2011), the action drama, ''Jilla'' (2014) and as lead in the ''Double XL'' (2022). Career After finishing a degree at Hindustan College of Arts and Science, Raghavendra pursued a career in films. Prior to his first full-fledged acting role, Raghavendra was seen as a background artiste in ''Vallavan'' (2006) and ''Kaalai'' (2008), two films starring his childhood friend, Silambarasan. Mahat-tattva () or mahat is a concept in the Samkhya philosophy of Hinduism. It is the first evolute of ''Prakriti'', the causeless cause of the world, that is generated after ''Prakriti'' begins to evolve when its equilibrium is disturbed, which causes expansion of material energy and matter.
