Maguire Center For Ethics
The Cary M. Maguire Center for Ethics and Public Responsibility serves the campus of Southern Methodist University and the greater Dallas area. The university-wide center supports student and faculty ethics-related education and activities, as well as outreach to community, in both private and public institutions. History The Cary M. Maguire Center for Ethics & Public Responsibility was funded by an endowment of $2.5 million from Cary M. Maguire in 1995. The center is the culmination of years of planning by visionary members of the SMU faculty, then-Provost Ruth Morgan, President ad interim James Kirby, and President Gerald Turner, all of whom believe that in today's hurried world it takes intentional reflection to devise ethical responses to society's problems. Southern Methodist University (SMU) is a Private university, private research university in Dallas, Texas, United States, with a satellite campus in Taos County, New Mexico. SMU was founded on April 17, 1911, by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South—now part of the United Methodist Church—in partnership with Dallas civic leaders. SMU Dedman School of Law, commonly referred to as SMU Law School or Dedman School of Law, is a law school located in Dallas, Texas. Jason P. Nance serves as its current dean. Founded in February 1925, the school located is on the Southern Methodist University campus. In February 2001, it was renamed SMU Dedman School of Law in honor of benefactors Robert H. Dedman Sr. and his wife Nancy Dedman. One of ten law schools in Texas, it was the only one in the city of Dallas until the University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT) opened its law school in 2014.
