Maguindanao
Maguindanao (; Maguindanaon: ''Dairat nu Magindanaw''; Iranun: ''Perobinsia a Magindanao''; ) was a province of the Philippines located in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). From 2014 to 2022, its provincial capital was Buluan, but the legislative branch of government, the Maguindanao Provincial Board, convened at the old provincial capitol in Sultan Kudarat. It bordered Lanao del Sur to the north, Cotabato to the east, Sultan Kudarat to the south, and Illana Bay to the west. It is now used collectively to refer to the provinces of Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte, with which it was replaced with since September 18, 2022 after a division of the province was approved in a plebiscite. 2022 Maguindanao Division Plebiscite
The Maguindanao division plebiscite was held in the province of Maguindanao, Philippines, on September 17, 2022, more than four months after the 2022 Philippine general election, May 9 national and local elections, after having been postponed from its planned plebiscite in or before August 2021. As required by Republic Act No. 11550, it was conducted to seek the consent of the residents of Maguindanao on the proposal to divide the province into two separate provinces that will henceforth be named Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur. The proposal was overwhelmingly accepted (99%) by the electorate and declared official on September 18, 2022, paving the way for the division of the province. Cotabato City, officially the City of Cotabato (Maguindanao language, Maguindanaon: ''Kuta nu Kutawatu'', Jawi alphabet, Jawi: ; Cebuano language, Cebuano: ''Dakbayan sa Cotabato''; ), is a Cities of the Philippines#Legal classification, independent component city in the Bangsamoro, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Philippines. Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao Del Norte
Sultan Kudarat, officially the Municipality of Sultan Kudarat (Maguindanaon: ''Inged nu Sultan Kudarat''; Iranun: ''Inged a Sultan Kudarat''; ), is a municipality of the province of Maguindanao del Norte, Philippines. At the 2020 census it had a population of 105,121. Formerly known as Nuling, it became the ''de jure'' capital of the former Maguindanao province in 1977. It served as the legislative capital of Maguindanao in 2011 as it plays host to the Maguindanao Provincial Board, previously housed in the former capitol at Shariff Aguak. Bai Mariam Mangudadatu
Mariam Sangki-Mangudadatu (born April 11, 1973) is a Filipina politician who has been the chief executive of Maguindanao del Sur since its division from Maguindanao in 2022. Her position is currently disputed as her assumption as acting governor remains unrecognized by the Bangsamoro and national governments, the latter of which recognizes her only as the officer in charge of the province. Previously, she was the 11th and 1st female governor of Maguindanao, serving from 2019 to 2022. Political career Sangki-Mangudadatu first entered politics in 2013 when she won as mayor of Datu Abdullah Sangki in Maguindanao. Buluan, officially the Municipality of Buluan (Maguindanaon: ''Inged nu Buluan''; ), is a municipality and capital of the province of Maguindanao del Sur, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 57,406 people.
