Achille Eugène Finet
Achille Eugène Finet (1863, Argenteuil – 1913, París) was a French botanist best known for his study of orchids native to Japan and China. Within the family Orchidaceae, he was the binomial authority, taxonomic authority of the genera '' Arethusantha'', ''Hemihabenaria'', ''Monixus'' and ''Malaxis, Pseudoliparis'' as well as of numerous orchid species. With François Gagnepain, he circumscribed a number of plant species from the family Annonaceae. In 1925 Hu Xiansu named the orchid genus ''Neofinetia'' in his honor. François Gagnepain
François Gagnepain (23 September 1866 – 25 January 1952) was a French botanist. The standard botanical author abbreviation Gagnep. is applied to plants described by Gagnepain. With Achille Eugène Finet, he named a number of species within the botanical family Annonaceae. The genus '' Gagnepainia'' (family Zingiberaceae) was named in his honor by Karl Moritz Schumann. The French Academy of Sciences awarded Gagnepain the ''Prix de Coincy'' for the year 1907. James Edgar Dandy
James Edgar Dandy (24 September 1903, in Preston, Lancashire – 10 November 1976, in Tring) was a British botanist, Keeper of Botany at the British Museum (Natural History) between 1956 and 1966. He was a world specialist on the plant genus ''Potamogeton'' and the family Magnoliaceae. Life Dandy was educated at Preston Grammar School and after that at Downing College, Cambridge, where he took his B.A. In 1925, he was appointed as an assistant to John Hutchinson at Kew Gardens, who worked on a new Angiosperm classification. He gave Dandy the opportunity to revise three taxa, one of which was Magnoliaceae. He became Fellow of the Linnean Society in 1927. On 11 July the same year, he was appointed Second class Assistant at the British Museum Department of Botany. He stayed here until his retirement in 1966. Magnoliaceae
The Magnoliaceae () are a flowering plant family, the magnolia family, in the order Magnoliales. It consists of two genera: '' Magnolia'' and ''Liriodendron'' (tulip trees). Unlike most angiosperms, whose flower parts are in whorls (rings), the Magnoliaceae have their stamens and pistils in spirals on a conical receptacle. This arrangement is found in some fossil plants and is believed to be a basal or early condition for angiosperms. The flowers also have parts not distinctly differentiated into sepals and petals, while angiosperms that evolved later tend to have distinctly differentiated sepals and petals.
