Greatest Hits Radio West Yorkshire (previously Radio Aire, Magic 828/Radio Aire 2, Ridings FM and Pulse 2) is an Independent Local Radio station serving West Yorkshire on 96.3 and 106.8 FM, DAB, online and via the app. The station was launched on 7 January 2019, replacing Radio Aire 2, following the decision to remove local station names from the northern England Medium Wave stations owned by Bauer Media. As of March 2024, the station broadcasts to a weekly audience of 177,000 listeners, according to RAJAR. History Radio Aire (See dedicated page for Radio Aire) Magic 828 Magic 828 was launched by Roger Kirk at 8:28 am on 17 July 1990. The station was formed due to Radio Aire splitting its AM and FM frequencies, with Radio Aire rebranding as Aire FM. "Magical Mystery Tour" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles and the title track to the December 1967 television film of the same name. It was released on the band's '' Magical Mystery Tour'' soundtrack record, which was a double EP in Britain and most markets but an album in America, where Capitol Records supplemented the new songs with tracks issued on the Beatles' 1967 singles. The song was written primarily by Paul McCartney and credited to the Lennon–McCartney partnership. The Beatles recorded the track in April and May 1967, soon after completing work on their album ''Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'', and several months before committing to make the ''Magical Mystery Tour'' film. Greatest Hits Radio Liverpool & The North West is an Independent Local Radio station based in Liverpool, England, owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio UK as part of the Greatest Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to Merseyside, Cheshire and South West Lancashire. The station forms part of Greatest Hits Radio North West. As of December 2024, the station has a weekly audience of 331,000 listeners according to RAJAR. Greatest Hits Radio Teesside is an Independent Local Radio station serving Teesside, as part of Bauer’s Greatest Hits Radio network. History Originally launched as Great North Radio by the Metro Radio Group in March 1989. The station broadcast on the old Radio Tees AM frequency of 1170 kHz Medium Wave. In 1996, Emap bought Metro Radio Group and at the start of 1997, Emap decided to scrap Great North Radio and replaced it with local stations under the brand name of ''Magic'', with a new format of Hot Adult Contemporary music. Greatest Hits Radio North East is an Independent Local Radio station, based in Newcastle, England, owned and operated by Bauer as part of the Greatest Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to North East England. History Great North Radio (also known as G.N.R) was formed in March 1989 using the AM frequencies of Metro Radio and Radio Tees. Greatest Hits Radio East Yorkshire & Northern Lincolnshire is an Independent Local Radio station serving East Riding of Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire. The station was replaced by a relay of Magic UK, as part of a restructure, on 1 September 2020. On 19 September 2022, GHR Hull & East Yorkshire became part of the Nation Radio network, and was relaunched as Nation Radio East Yorkshire following the end of the licensing name agreement which had allowed GHR to broadcast on the Nation-owned licence. The Superstation
The Superstation (or ''Radio Radio'' as it was known in the industry) was set up in 1987 as an overnight sustaining service for Independent Local Radio. Launched in July 1988, the station broadcast from 10.00pm until 6.00am on many of the UK's commercial radio stations, as a more economically viable alternative to local programming. Brief history The concept of the Superstation came from David Campbell and Rob Jones who worked for Virgin's radio arm and was backed financially by Richard Branson. The service originally broadcast from British Forces Broadcasting studios in Paddington, London, but later moved to Manchester. By 1990, it was broadcasting across 21 stations and was mainly backed by Transworld Communications, together with GWR Group, Yorkshire Radio Network, Radio Trent and Radio Forth. Alex Hall (born Patricia Anne Thompson now Fisher, 17 July 1949) is a British actress and radio presenter. Early life Her father was a semi-professional footballer for Nuneaton Borough FC.
