Magic (UK Radio Station)
Magic Radio is a British digital radio station owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio UK. The station is available on 105.4 FM in London, 106.5 FM in Bristol and across the UK on DAB Digital Radio, via Bauer's Rayo platform, and on Smart speakers. It plays "adult contemporary" such as Elton John, Madonna, Ed Sheeran, Whitney Houston, UB40, Simply Red, and more. It had previously been a part of a network of Magic stations broadcast on FM in London and on MW across northern England and began broadcasting across the UK via the Digital One multiplex in January 2015. On 5 January 2015, Magic Radio launched nationally on DAB and all other Magic stations were dissolved to form the Bauer City 2 network. According to RAJAR, the station broadcasts to a weekly audience of 4.4 million with a listening share of 5.4% as of March 2024. Planet Rock is a British digital radio station and network owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio UK. The station broadcasts classic rock music. As of December 2024, the station has a weekly audience of 956,000 listeners according to RAJAR. Overview The station was established in 1999, initially run by the GWR Group as part of the launch lineup of Digital One stations. Ahead of GCap's purchase by Global, the station was sold to Malcolm Bluemel's 'Rock Show' consortium in 2008, and from there was sold on to become part of Bauer Radio’s portfolio of brands in 2013. Radio Aire was an Independent Local Radio station, serving Leeds and West Yorkshire. The station was merged and relaunched as Greatest Hits Radio West Yorkshire, as part of a rebrand, on 1 September 2020. History Radio Aire was launched at 6am on 1 September 1981 by breakfast presenter Graham Thornton – the first song played on air was ''Pilot of the Airwaves'' by Charlie Dore. The station's first news bulletin was read by Christa Ackroyd and in November 1982, she became the UK's first female radio news editor. Radio Joint Audience Research Limited (RAJAR; ) was established in 1992 to operate a single audience measurement system for the radio industry in the United Kingdom. RAJAR is jointly owned by the BBC and Radiocentre. RAJAR's predecessor was called Joint Industry Committee on Radio Audience Research (JICRAR; ). Magic was an AM radio network based in Northern England.
