''Madness'' is a compilation album by the British ska/pop band Madness. It was issued primarily for the North American market in order to capitalise on the top 10 success in the United States of their hit single " Our House" from the 1982 album '' Madness Presents the Rise & Fall'', which had not been available there. Content ''Madness'' features six tracks from ''The Rise & Fall'' album, three from the 1981 album '' 7'', one from the 1979 debut album '' One Step Beyond...'' and two single a-sides. The 1980 album '' Absolutely'' is not represented on the compilation. The album contains every UK single from "Grey Day" to "Tomorrow's (Just Another Day)", with the exception of " Driving in My Car", which has never been issued on any US compilation. However, the album was also issued in Japan where "Driving in My Car" replaced "Rise & Fall". Critical reception ''Rolling Stone''s J. D. Madness are an English ska and pop band from Camden Town, north west London, who formed in 1976. "Cardiac Arrest" is a song by the English ska band Madness from their third studio album '' 7'' (1981) and other compilation album called ''Complete Madness'' (1982). It spent 10 weeks in UK charts peaking at number 14. The song was written by Chas Smash and Chris Foreman and tells a story of a workaholic who suffers a fatal heart attack on his way to work. It was the first Madness single since "The Prince" which did not reach the UK top 10. The album version of the song ends after the second chorus with a dramatic cut to a coda representing the man's heart thudding and then stopping. The single version replaces this with a repeat of the more optimistic first chorus, which fades out. "Night Boat to Cairo" is a song by British ska/ pop band Madness from their debut 1979 album '' One Step Beyond...''. It was written by Mike Barson and Suggs and was also included on the 1980 EP '' Work Rest and Play'', which peaked at number six on the UK Singles Chart and reached the top 30 in Belgium, Ireland and the Netherlands. The song was later re-issued in the UK in 1993 following the success of the re-issued version of " It Must Be Love" but failed to reach the top 40, peaking at number 56.
