Macquarie University AFC
Macquarie University Australian Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Sydney, Australia. The club colours are black, red and white and they are nicknamed the Warriors. Macquarie Uni participates in Division One of the Sydney AFL league. Teams also play in third Division, and Under 18s second Division. The women's team plays in Division one, after being promoted following their undefeated premiership season in 2013. History Formerly known under the moniker of the Kookaburras, Macquarie University AFC dates back to 1969, two years after Macquarie University had been established. Up until 2009 the club played in a green and yellow strip but changed to its current colors of black, red and white for the 2010 season. AFL Sydney is an Australian rules football League, based in metropolitan Sydney, Australia. The AFL Sydney competition comprises 126 teams from 22 clubs which play across seven senior men's divisions, five women's divisions, a Master's Division and two under 19 competitions in season 2022. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Amanda Farrugia
Amanda Farrugia (born 24 January 1985) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Greater Western Sydney Giants in the AFL Women's competition. She was the club's inaugural AFLW captain and played in all 21 possible matches across her three seasons at the club. Early life and state league football Farrugia was born and raised in the western suburbs of Sydney in New South Wales. Her parents are of Maltese descent and she attended Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary School, Greystanes. She began playing football in 2011 when she joined Macquarie University in the lower divisions of the Sydney Women's AFL (SWAFL). Ellie Katherine Brush (born 19 August 1988) is an Australian sportswoman who plays soccer for Canberra United in the Australian A-League Women. She has also played Australian rules football for Greater Western Sydney in the AFL Women's (AFLW). She also studied physiotherapy at Charles Sturt University. Emma Swanson (born 27 February 1995) is an Australian rules footballer and the captain of the West Coast Eagles in the AFL Women's competition. Amateur career Swanson is originally from Mandurah, Western Australia. She has played state league football for the Peel Thunderbirds and East Fremantle in the West Australian Women's Football League (WAWFL).
