M1 (Russian TV Channel)
M1 was a former television station in Moscow, which broadcast on the UHF band. The station started test broadcasts in 1994, becoming permanent on February 13, 1995, under the name Channel 31. On December 11, 1999, the channel was renamed M1 (First Moscovite) and was shut down in 2005 in order for STS to launch Domashny. History The TV company AOZT "Teleexpress-31-iy kanal" (Телеэкспресс — 31-й канал) was founded in 1994, in which it started broadcasting test transmissions for the channel of the same name that year. Ultra high frequency (UHF) is the ITU designation for radio frequencies in the range between 300 megahertz (MHz) and 3 gigahertz (GHz), also known as the decimetre band as the wavelengths range from one meter to one tenth of a meter (one decimetre). Radio waves with frequencies above the UHF band fall into the super-high frequency (SHF) or microwave frequency range. Lower frequency signals fall into the VHF ( very high frequency) or lower bands. UHF radio waves propagate mainly by line of sight; they are blocked by hills and large buildings although the transmission through building walls is strong enough for indoor reception. Domashny ( rus, Домашний, p=dɐˈmaʂnʲɪj, t=Home Channel) is a Russian TV network which targets female viewers aged 25–60. It was launched in March 2005. Domashny was aimed to deliver programming to capture an attractive audience in demand by advertisers, but traditionally under-served by broadcasters. CTC Media created the Domashny brand in 2005 from the ground up. Today, Domashny has a potential audience of 63 million people. In 2006, Domashny's average audience share in its target demographic was 2.4%, compared to 1.7% in 2007. Domashny Network in 2008 comprised four owned-and-operated stations. Before changing to digital TV signal, it had more than 230 affiliates, including 13 owned-and-operated stations.
